Comment:
Professor Brubaker is very kind, and really wants to help his students to do well. His tests (at least for Legacies, I can't say about other classes) are mostly memorization-based, which in my opinion isn't the best but I think Legacies is tough to teach anyway

Comment:
Con Law was very difficult but also very rewarding. Brubaker is a very harsh grader, especially on tests, but he is always willing to go over important concepts during office hours. He is also very clear in class about what he wants from the presentations, which was very helpful. He's also just a very nice person.

Comment:
Tends to get off topic or bogged down in little details so is always behind. Tests and quizzes expect details, however they are usually the details covered in class and he repeats questions from test to test. Lectures are mostly repetition of the reading but he genuinely loves the material and gets very into it.

Comment:
Gets off topic way too easily, and is very unorganized. He spends too much time on unimportant things and we make very little progress in class. Very disappointed at how much he expects from his students when he isn't teaching the material well enough. He tries to incorporate his POSC background into teaching Legacies, but it doesn't really work.

Comment:
Brubaker's classes were boring and useless, he just repeated everything from the night's readings, however his exams were awful and he grades papers harshly. Unreal expectations for a required 100-level course. You can definitely find a better professor for CORE 151.

Comment:
His teaching consists of going over what we read the night before - haven't really learned anything at all in the class. His exams are nasty and ask for useless details about the books. Very boring. Don't take Legacies with Brubaker... you can definitely find a better prof.

Actually one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Nice guy, but does not know how to teach Western Trad. Basically spent all of class rereading what we read the night before or recapping what was said in the prior class. Ridiculous expectations considering how little effort he puts into class. So boring, avoid if you can

Taking his CORE151 class was a huge mistake. Lectures were incredibly redundant, we were always behind schedule, and I didn't feel he was very good at starting good discussions. The class wasn't that much work (3 papers, a midterm and a final) but he was a tough grader on the papers and the midterm was kind of tough.

Really not as fun and interesting as they make him sound, but really cute indeed. MC quizzes weren't that hard, provided that you read the material. Lectures could get a little boring, and overall a tough grader. May not be able to provide solid individual attention b/c of class size in intro classes, could be good or bad. Overall, brubaker is ehh.

Pretty challenging for a 100-level class, but his wittiness and pleasantness make class worthwhile. If I were to do it again, I would read the texts much more carefully because he expects us to really know the works. Definitely got me really interested in political philosophy.

hard for a 100 level class. his lectures are great and give you a really in depth understanding of the topic. has a very clear point and makes it well. grades do not reflect work put in because he expects you to have little details that you wouldnt expect. a grad student also grades many of the papers which makes grades a little inconsistant.

He is a very smart man who has a way with words, which can sometimes be hard to follow. He tends to laugh when you speak your mind, which didn't help my self-esteem, and he is always pushing you to debate topics that are sometimes undebateable. Lot's of reading, requires attendence.
