Comment:
I took this class from Stephen as people I know had taken it from him previously and really enjoyed it. Taking this class now though was terrible. Everything differed. He tried to squeeze in a TON of content and didn't go into an detail. The class consisted of him rattling off vocabulary and definitions and expecting you to figure them out later.

The first thing he did on the first day was pretend he was a Stats prof and we'd gone to the wrong lecture hall. Sense of humor is dry but incredibly on-point. Does his best to make Geology interesting and shares real-life experience in the field. You'll come to class to take notes and stay because the next moment he's brandishing a lightsaber.

I heard amazing things about Dr. Bend and I was honestly underwhelmed. He had a lot of real world experience which was good, but I thought the lecture material didn't prepare us so well for the tests. There were a lot of surprises on the midterm and final and I did way worse than i thought i would do. don't buy the textbook. And the labs are easy!

Awesome prof! I really enjoyed learning from this experienced geologist. If you are coming into this class like some of my classmates; don't be a tool and talk in class. Some people are genuinely interested, and not just blowing off a science elective. Professor Bend was incredible, and I would definitely recommend him!

GEO102 sucks, but Dr. Bend keeps it light and interesting. Tells lots of stories and makes lectures interesting.

Dr. Bend is a great professor as he brings many real life examples he has experienced into the lecture with him. He constantly cracks jokes which the class breaks down in laughter. If you try it is an easy pass. He doesn't post power point but post booklets where are very similar to the power points. Highly recommend reading them.

Best prof at the u of s! Really clear and straight forward. Exams are simple! Have had him for three classes and his classes always helped me get my gpa up! Just pay attention to what he teaches in class, books aren't mandatory.

This was one of the best classes/profs I've taken. Felt like I learned a lot after. Exams/mid term we're all very fair if you studied. Only thing I didn't like were the lab assistants.

Very interesting prof. I enjoyed going to class every time and found easy to pay attention as class would fly by. He has tons of experience in the field and isn't out to get you on his marking. Its pretty easy to do good in the class. Would recommend.

first half of the lectures is vital to the midterm. But the second half was mayhem! The final was full of completely random and non-essential definitions. The multiple choice options were intentionally confusing and tricky.

His teaching was clear and concise and he even threw in a few jokes about his kids which kept us entertained. It's a relatively easy topic so it wasn't difficult, and I barely cracked my book. The CD at the back was awesome though. BE CAREFUL ON THE EXAMS!!!! He likes word games. Pay attention to prefixes and suffixes.

All right.. I'm an 80's student in all my classes. I have two friends taking this with me who are 90's students - they both failed midterm, I barely passed the midterm. Not a fan. He talks down to us as though we are 5 year olds and I have not been impressed with the quality of teaching.

Good prof. You just go to class and pay attention, don't worry about notes because everything is in the textbook. This is the way every class should be set up. Finally a prof with a brain! Recommended.

GREAT PROF! I only went to the first 3 or 4 classes (plus midterm and final) but from what I saw, and talking to him in his office once or twice, he is a great, helpful and generaly interesting guy. Recommended, and for those naysayers about my skipping, pulled of a 76 with just going over the CD with the text(another great one) once
