Conducts her lectures off of a powerpoint presentation, but explains the info on the slides more in-depth. Very good at explaining the info, and uses funny analogies. Is also understanding about students who do not have much background in chemistry, and is a really good review teacher if you've taken AP. Only problem is she pronounces measure wrong

Averages on the last two exams were approximately 58% and 52%. Final was 61%. Poor lecturer. Doesn't post grades online. Avoid.

She was OK for CHEM0960. However, CHEM0970 has been dreadful. She has decent lectures and her partial notes are very helpful. The quizzes are easy. That being said, her exams are nearly impossible. I always find myself failing them even when I study for a week. She also does not put any grades up until the semester is over. Would not recommend

I had taken chem for 2 years in high school before taking it with maleckar. I expected a higher grade than a B but I don't think she was unfair. There was only one opened ended question on a test that I thought was too convoluted for what she had taught us, but I would definitely take her again!

Phenomenal teacher, but you must stay on top of your work. The exams are SO fair and if you study hard, understand the homework, and don't underestimate her tests, you will do well. I did very well on the first two test but not so well on the third test and final and ended up getting a C. You must put in time to do well in this class.

Maleckar is probably the best option for engineering gen chem. Not the greatest lecturer out there, but by no means the worst. Partial notes posted online. Incredibly nice lady, will work with you if needed. Exams are fine.

Maleckar is a solid choice for chem for engineers. It is very clear what she expects from the students. Some exams are harder than others. People with prior experience in chem will do well.

Maleckar had good slides that were posted to courseweb. She was well organized but not uptight. Her class was relatively easy if you pay attention. Open to questions in lecture if you don't understand something, very willing to explain things after lecture as well. Exams were fair.

Professor Maleckar really goes out of her way to make a large class setting feel more personal. She gives fill-in-the-blank notes that are easy to follow and fill in. I got high B's and low A's on all of her exams after just a couple hours of studying. If you don't understand something, she is not afraid to spend a day reviewing the topic.

Would be a better teacher if she could actually pair her tests with the material learned. Tests are unnecessarily difficult. Very SAD that this is a teacher at Pitt!! Tragic.

Professor Maleckar is a great professor. She's really a more knowledgeable high-school teacher, and I mean that in a really good way. She's really approachable and down to earth, while also being extremely helpful for Chem. Definitely recommend taking her

Susan is a great woman and she is a great lecturer. However, her tests are horrendously difficult, so you have to be prepared to put in the work. Do not take if you don't have the time to put in the work, but if you can, it'll be worth it.

Dr. Maleckar is a great professor. She is very caring and is extremely knowledgeable. She really wants everyone to know chemistry, which shows in her lectures. She makes partial notes t follow along with in class, which is amazing. Since you aren't just writing everything down, you can really pay attention to her lectures and get information.

She was very smart and knew what she was talking about but I would study for 2 weeks before an exam and go to tutoring and receive a B. The open ended questions come from previous homeworks or ICA. I wouldnt recommend, there are better profs out there

She's seriously so smart and I respect her immensely, but I studied hours upon hours for exams and I still failed. Idk what to say about this class other than it was just hard. She taught the material really well, and you learn a ton but the tests will demolish you.

Maleckar provides excellent in class notes to follow along with her powerpoints. For all that she's a good lecturer, her exams take it to a whole new level. No matter how much you study, or how well you understand the material, textbook problems, note examples, homework, or old quizzes, the exams will destroy your grade. Avoid at all costs.
