Comment:

Very nice professor! You are expected to read the chapters prior to class considering he emphasizes them and brings in cool real world examples in class. Chemistry (like all science) REQUIRES lots of studying and frustration, but his tests and class make it less stressful!

Comment:

The class was very difficult, but so worth it once you understand the material. It's definitely a challenge, but it's all about if you're willing to put in the work. Spence was great at explaining most things, but I found myself and many other classmates teaching ourselves and each other. review the book study Sapling and notes for sure.

Comment:

Spence is the AWESOME! All of the other professors are difficult for intro because they are trying to reduce the excessive number of pre-med majors. Spence is by far the easiest, most helpful chem teacher. Take him! You won't regret it.

Spence is really high energy and it's easy to get lost if you don't keep up with reading or notes. As with all science professors, he's a little crazy on the edges but he's really helpful. PLEASE don't be afraid to ask for help. He's intimiating but He really explains things well outside of class. If you like chemistry, he'll keep you interested.

Comment:

Spence is by far one of the best Chemistry teachers at Loyola. He is extremely helpful when you need him and his class really isn't that hard (and I'm not even a Chemistry major). The tests can be a bit overwhelming but if you READ THE CHAPTER, and know how to use your calcualtor you'll be fine. TAKE SPENCE you wont regret it.

Comment:

Chem isnt easy. He tries to make it fun by providing drawings and videos. He teaches really fast, and youre basically on your own with the notes. This class is impossible without the textbook. Advice: dont ever fall behind; do all your homework. This class will take TOO MUCH of your time. Be your textbook and calculator's best friend.

I had Crago for gen chem I and hated it... after Spence's class, I wished that I'd have been in his class in the fall as well. He really is an excellent chemistry teacher. If he sees that you're not getting it, he will stop and do anything to make the class understand. Definitely the best chem professor for science majors.

Spence is great! He explained complicated material in a way that any somewhat intelligent person can understand. He's always willing to help you if you have a problem, too. He made a boring class fun, exciting, and interesting. I highly recommend taking Spence.. if nothing else, he'll make you have a fun time in chemistry.

Dr. Spence is an awesome teacher! He knows how to explain everything and also makes it amusing and enjoyable. His tests aren't worse than any other chem test, even though you may not find out your grade for a month. I do high recommend this teacher.. take Spence!
