He is a great person I like that he uses personal examples to help explain some of the difficult topics, his grading can be a bit strange but overall I would take the class again.

Prof. Byrnes is fabulous. His class last semester was one of the best I've ever taken. He is super knowledgeable and helpful--he makes really complex ideas seem simple. You have to work hard, but it is entirely worth it. Great sense of humor and really kind, too. People actually get excited when he's just going to lecture for the full time.

Presidency class was amazing. Really worthwhile. Professor Byrnes is an amazing person and lecturer. Loved the class. Will have some work to do and he is pretty set in his ways with grades but the class is worth it.

Crazy smart and really interesting, but sometimes it's hard to follow along with what he wants to learn versus what are side tangents. Funny guy, awesome professor, but will definitely make you do your work.

I liked this class a lot. I got A's on the tests and went to every class and did every reading. But he didn't like my opinions on my paper so gave me a bad grade. Basically just regurgitate everything he says on the paper because if you have a dissenting opinion you are punished for it.

wonderful professor, really love him! His tests are mostly based on class discussion instead of reading. However the short answers are from the books. Lots of reading but if you don't read, you still can understand what he's talking about. his class is based on cases and he'll use questions to guide you think critically. definitely taking his class

Byrnes is extremely smart and is respected by his students. He can be intimidating, but overall he's a nice, laid-back guy. There's quite a bit of reading and it's necessary to pass the course because he only highlights a few topics. He lectures for almost the entire period, but it's relevant and he's rarely boring. I'd recommend him for poli sci.

Professor Byrnes is one of the best professors I've had here at Colgate. He is always funny in class and conveys the material in such a way that it is easy to understand and follow. He is a fair grader and will push you to do your best. I definitely recommend taking any class with him in your time at Colgate

Tim engages his students with his love of teaching his subject. His area of expertise is religion in politics, but his span of world knowledge is enormous. If he does not know something, he is always willing to learn. Funny and really eloquent; grades as a standard professor. Go to his office hours and ALWAYS WRITE AN OUTLINE

Having already had Tim, I was nervous about taking him again due to my preconceived notions about him, but not only was I wrong in that thinking, I was really wrong. The man is a walking circus in terms of examples and stories. The substance to the class isn't always present, but it doesn't matter. The Tim Byrnes experience is worth it.

Great professor, worth getting up for an 8:30. However he is a very difficult grader. You have to do the readings to pass exams and they are dense but if you're interested in the material it's bearable.

Unreal professor. He's the reason I'm a poli sci major. Take ANYTHING he teaches, even if you have no interest in the class material. Completely worth it just to spend a semester in a class with him.

Tim is a character, but he's really a good professor if you are interested in the ideas and issues his class is focused on. He wants clarity in writing and in discussion - two things which all students should learn anyhow. A wonderful professor and a great introduction to life at Colgate.

SUCH an engaging lecturer! Keeps the 75 minute class SO interesting even though it is straight lecture. If you don't take a class with him before you graduate you are seriously depriving yourself of one of the best classroom experiences Colgate has to offer. He is UNREAL. He is a superstar. He should teach every class in the POSC department.
