Comment:

Have had for EID101 and an independent study. Very inspirational man who goes to great lengths for the world and his students. He makes you work hard but you come out of each class feeling very accomplished and reinvigorated.

Comment:

His classes are an absolutely formative part of the EE department. He is rough, but by God the man cares about students. If you can swallow your own frustration with him/the subject, conversations with him are the best. Makes you work for senior project, but if you want to be a true engineer, every drop of blood shed is worth it. My favourite prof.

He once threw a classmate's report at his face because it contained too many typos. He threw mine in the trash in front of me, and then proceeded to berate us over the quality of the papers. He doesn't understand that everyone in Cooper works hard. If the quality of the papers are poor, it wasn't because we wanted it to be this way.

Toby is the most important EE professor at CU. His style is rough and he is, at times, incomprehensible. He will make the unwilling respire, but reward those with the ability to aspire. Nobody prepares you for the real world like this man. Hilarious, and simply brilliant. Ask him what year he came to the US from Australia.

Toby has an interesting way of grading. Certainly, if you can ace the exams then you're fine. However, the most important thing to Toby is to show him that you're trying. To get the grade you mus be able to speak electronics, not just solve equations.

Toby really shines in this course because it is project-based, not lecture-based. It's the hardest class in the EE curriculum, but it is real engineering. Toby's knowledge and dedication are unmatched. It is a thoroughly rewarding experience.

Professor Cumberbatch is rare exception: he is simultaneously an unparalleled Engineer and an excellent teacher. Whereas most faculty are content to simply be experts in his field, he has cultivated an excellent pedagogy and shows it.
