Tom Skore is the best teacher I ever had. I am indebted to him in more ways than I can express here. He is tough, smart, and brutally honest. Not everyone should pursue a career in the arts. It is a tough racket if you want to be a paid actor, director, or writer. I wound up being a paid writer in Hollywood, and he gets large credit.

Not to be negative or anything but he is genuinely not a good professor. His class is easy enough, but I get the impression that he doesn't really know what he is talking about. Pretty much has a horrible reputation inside and outside of the theatre department. However, participation really counts so as long as you show up you will do well.

I took Meisner, Shakespeare and dialects. Tom is amazing. He doesn't sugarcoat anything, but under the gruff exterior, he's really sweet and caring. If you are having difficulties, let him know. Always willing to help. Sometimes he can be hard on you, but it's because he's committed to helping you grow as an actor. Fantastic teacher!

Tom definitely threw me off guard when I first joined his class. I've never had a professor or director like him before, but he tells it like it is. He really is a good theater teacher and knows so much about theater and is really passionate about it.But if you take his class just be prepared to be knocked off that pedestal you've put yourself on.

Skore knows his acting, but he also happens to be utterly insane. Conversation with him is extremely one-sided, and you're not on that side. His grading procedures are arbitrary and his assignments unclear. Use of the textbook feels superfluous, but you'd better read it. The only way to enjoy and excel in the class is to pretend it isn't a class.

Tom is a genius. I went into his class thinking I knew a lot about acting and he showed me otherwise. I have learned so much from him, and am eager to learn more! He can seem rude but it is for your best interest to listen to what he has to say. Try to form a personal relationship with him. It will benefit you. GREAT TEACHER!

He will say it like it is; if you think intro to acting will be easy, you're right, but don't be so naive that it won't challenge you: IT WILL. He is VERY helpful & critical in the best sense, but do NOT come in with a big ego, like some. In my experience, he pushed me in a good direction, for which I will be forever grateful.

An excellent teacher who knows what he's talking about and will push you if he thinks you need it. Will make time for anyone who shows genuine interest and ACTUALLY TRIES. Grades fairly and accurately. Will give lots of notes and critiques which may be personal but are opinions. Will single people out to break them and build them back up stronger.

He is the best teacher I have ever had. He pushes you hard, but in my opinion that is what makes a great teacher. It's an acting class. If you can't handle it then you probably shouldn't act. Skore has made a career out of telling students they shouldn't act. He is a bully- he picks out about 2-3 kids per class he decides he doesn't like, and tries to discourage them. He's the only acting teacher who's at UAA though, so if you REALLY want to act, don't tell him TMI like he will, and be CAREFUL with boundaries. He gets insulting w/ time.

Most of what goes on in classes doesn't make sense to "non-theatre" people and even they have to be patient at times, but the end results can be rewarding. Bottom line you're going to get as much out of his classes as you put in. Get books from the library if at all because his lectures are where you're going to learn the skill set.
