Prof. Whelchel is the best professor at IVC and the only one I've had who actually makes you think and criticize the info we're given. His lectures will blow your mind and change how you see everything!

Wow ok, this guy is a real gem. His lectures are INSANEly entertaining AND informational. He will completely change your view of the world. BEWARE however of your grade. He has no mercy on the essays.

Easy class if you just agree with him in your papers. Can't really defer from point of view if you want high marks. While I think he's a decent prof who assigns important books gives great exposure, he didn't truly prep me for my future in academics as a history major. Fyi, I'm going to a UC next term + grad school later. Books great, Prof sub par

While I do enjoy studying East Asian history and related subject matter, I didn't find Prof. Whelchel's courses that beneficial. There's way too much hype around this guy. He's super chill (unless you annoy him, which isn't hard), but he's not a great educator. Far too many tangents, attitude, and I didn't feel as though I was prepared to transfer

Professor Whelchel made me truly excited to go to class - his lectures are fascinating and illuminating, and he is passionate about what he teaches. He grades based on only a few assignments, but he grades easily. Unfortunately, he had to leave halfway through the semester, and I was disappointed I wasn't able to finish the class with him.

He assigns readings from a variety of books and documents and a few writing assignments based on the reading. These writing assignments are your entire grade and his lectures only provide extra information. You only have to show up to get that week's reading, but I would recommend staying for his lectures

Taking his class is a MUST! You will learn what they do not want you to know! You will see history from a completely different perspective. If you love immortal technique songs and you understand his message then this professor will be your favorite one! Love this professor. Funny and very very smart. I would highly recommend him to everyone.

A very funny, caring and understanding professor. I took his class for the sake of finishing my GE credits and only requires you to do 5 essays which I would highly recommend writing up ahead of time. And visit his office hours for him to proofread it if you want an A on it. Even though I took his class as P/NP it's actually an easy A.

great and interesting lecture. He is very different from any other teacher in IVC. He made me want to go to the class. He gave the most interesting lecture. YOU WILL NOT REGRET TAKING THIS CLASS. just be careful. DO NOT DISRESPECT THE PROFESSOR.

He has fun, interesting and different history lectures. I'm not a hist major but I've learned the most history in this class in my entire life. Attendance isn't mandatory but I found his lectures to help with the essays. There are 5 essays to write & take them seriously and you'll do well. He is super fun, nice, understanding, & hilarious! Good guy

This was the easiest history class I have ever taken. There is not one single multiple choice test. The only work in this class is reading a short document that is one page and then writing about 400 words on it. He is so laid back and very to the point. I cannot stress enough how easy this class was. Take him if you want an A.

Enrolling at the beginning of the semester I was definitely not expecting what I got. He loves to RANT about the same topic for the whole hour, I honestly do not understand why he has slides. Other than that he is a cool guy & this class is an easy A. In class essay, take home essay, the final in class essay & document write ups THATS ALL!!!

If there is one thing that this class will leave you with it is that, History isn't just chronological, its YOUR Interpretation of the past. Get this through now, and you'll realize what the dude is trying to convey. His Lectures are wild and completely off topic however, everyone was always eager to sit in and be entertained. Fun class, recommend

Overall, he's an incredibly disorganized professor and his lectures are mainly about drugs. I have an great GPA but this class almost dropped it. Completion points for the first essay, the take home essay, and the document essays. To get an A, write your essays in advance and bring them to class (you should even have him read them over before)!
