Puma is the worst teacher I ever had in college. Totally subjective grading. Poor communicator. Poor attitude. His grading methodology goes against all teaching practices which you're taught to use within the Education Department at Flagler College... which is kind of ironic. Seriously, one of the worst teachers I ever had. Hated his class.

Comment:

He retired last year, so you probably won't see him around too often. An extremely intelligent guy, but sort of eccentric. Democratic approach to lessons allows students to choose grade weightings. Lots of writing and workshopping. He expects a great deal out of you, and classes can be quite difficult. However, your writing will certainly improve.

Challenging and demanding but well worth it. Very quirky kindof guy (brings rainbow pediasure beverages to class everyday). On the downside he sometimes plays favorites. Make sure to participate in class!

Good teacher. sometimes helpful other times not. he is a bit harsh at times. silly group project and about 10 grades for the whole semester. if you do well on those than you will do well in the course. no final exam just a makeup in class essay if you do poorly on the first one.

Excellent teacher...my writing improved 100%...not an easy teacher, tho, you have to be very motivated. he's very helpful and interesting but requires a lot of hard work and doesn't grade easily, there's a lot of writing involved as well. if you just want an easy a, don't take him. if u have to take the class & really want to improve ur writing, do

I took Puma for Art of Nonfiction, the subject was extremely interesting. Through taking it I did become a better writer, I learned how to write a descriptive piece without adjectives. He always threatened us with tests but we never had one. Lots of writing, group project at the end that he's never really clear about. Good professor, no A's.

you get docked for coming in knowing how to write. if you write at a higher level than everyone else, you learn nothing and if your writing doesn't "improve" according your own abilities he'll give you bad grades. HE IS A SUBJECTIVE TEACHER. don't take him if you have any writing abilities higher than a fourth grader

I had him for language studies. He's a great teacher. Really gets students to use their brains. He's very helpful and intellectual. He will have you leaving there in a cloud with all the ideas he has given you. Take him, at least once.

I had a class with Dr Puma in 1973. I am glad to see he is still the teacher and inspiration now as back then. Inspired me to become a teacher and professor. Thanks Vince. You are the best.

Even though he was tough, he was interesting to listen to. He knew I had trouble on written tests so he allowed me to take them orally. He is tough but fair and makes the topic of linguistics as interesting as can be.

This was one of the most difficult courses I've taken so far and one of the most challenging professors. I worked really hard to get a B, which is basically the best you can get in his class since he doesn't like giving A's. He didn't give any tests, just LOOOOTS of writing!!!

Puma is very particular with what he wants. I found it hard to write my way and get a good grade. I ended up with a disappointing C and still tried very hard. He is an interesting man, nice and exeuberant but its hard to make above a C.

I thought this class was really easy. He has a very dynamic/scatter-brained personality that makes the class interesting. He displays a personal interest in his students.
