If you do take this class, PLEASE get your workbooks checked by him PERIODICALLY. Don't wait till the last moment like me and spend 5 hours trying to give it to him last minute; the line outside his office is like a Black Friday sale. Most of the time is just me waiting for my turn, since he grade the workbook 1 on 1 tutoring style which takes time

1) Attend every class 2) Phones are NOT allowed 3) Put in actual effort at home If you can follow the above three rules (he's super strict about #2), this class will definitely be easy. He is a lenient professor, but don't expect to have an easy A because of that. (Also for material reference, we reached around Chapter 5 on the Genki 1 textbook).

If you're looking to take this class to breeze by, good luck. He integrates a lot of things that punish students who don't show up or try. The biggest annoyance was how hw was checked. It was very inefficient and took a long time. Take this class if you are really interested in the language, not because you want to watch anime without subtitles.

Sensei is a very exotic but caring and excellent teacher. Japanese is a hard language to learn so there isnt a very easy way to teach the class, but he does a great job easing us through it. People who complain about him are usually the really lazy and self entitled students who want easy grades. Do the work and come to class and youll be fine.

He talks a lot biological and political things in class, extremely dislike people use electronic devices in his CLASSROOM. To pass his class, you just need to do his homework assignments which he posts online, get the good grades in exams, and BEING IN CLASS. Anyway, he is a good professor if you just want to complete GE class.

Hilarious yet gets off topic with psychology & the news. He uses real life events in his work to get information to stick in your head. Don't get scared that he dumps all the writing parts in less than two months since overtime he sticks it to your brain. His office hours had the weirdest convos w/ him & his TA. Gonna miss him and his quirkiness.

AHG. I wish he taught more levels! He's so fun, energetic, refreshing, unique sense of humor. He is always happy to help anybody who's struggling, and sometimes during tests he tells some answers. EASY CLASS as long as you study. 6 quiz, takes off the lowest test grade. He makes me want to learn more in the class. Love the environment.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE his class. His class was what helped me turn my academic life around. I absolutely love the atmosphere in the classroom and his style of teaching. He made the class fun and interesting. There was never a dull moment. If I can, I would definitely take his class again. I owe a lot to Shimazu-sensei!

He was one of the most effective teachers I have ever had. Learning a language is nerve racking and difficult, but Shimazu tried very very hard to make it an easy and entertaining experience for all involved. If you aren't gonna commit to the class though, don't waste your classmates time.

Shimazu-sensei's a great teacher. All the negative comments about him here are probably from people who are always absent and never do the homework. He is a very eccentric speaker, so make sure to follow his lecture carefully! If not, ask questions or go to his office and he will be happy to help you out. I learned a lot from his class!

Shimazu Sensei is a great teacher in terms of helpfulness he will definately go out of his way to help you learn the material, you just need to be vocal about it and make sure to go see him if you are having trouble. he has a lot of quirks but that is what kept me from sleeping during his classes. the key is stay involved and interactive in class.

Shimazu Sensei is a very eccentric teacher, always eager to help students learn and improve. I don't believe he himself is a difficult teacher, just that Japanese is a difficult language to pick up, though if you do the homework you end up retaining a lot more than you would expect. I don't expect I've done well in his class, but that's my fault.

He does play favorites but sometimes unclear on his teaching methods. Don't cut class. Overall the homework is easy and the quiz is easy. The quizzes may go really quick for some because he does not give you a lot of time.

Easy A class, just go to class, try hard, do this assignment, then you can get decent grade, he is willing to donate his personal extra time to make online assignment, passionate about his teaching&quality of education. for those who gave him nasty comment are those who just want to get jp girl or just flirt with classmate without study in class.

25B is really NOT that hard, if you study hard and do not cut the class, you will get good grade like A or A-~~ or at least B+ He wants his students learn more so he will give students lots of homework, but these really improve my Japanese a lot. so if u put some effort! u will get good grade for sure!!

I struggled through this entire course (as did many) and got a D or F on every quiz, somehow that translated to a B as my final grade. Needless to say, GRADING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO UNDERSTAND. He is open to questions but he'll rarely understand what you are trying to ask. Lastly, he confuses many when he suddenly changes speach to Spanish, Arabic, etc.
