I dont think I could take a teacher serious thats late to their own class so much. Posts assignments without notice so you will have to check icollege everyday. Little lecture heavy.

I expected more from the department head. Everything starts and ends with his book. Takes roll but doesn't care if you learn anything, except his book. He's rude and confusing. Group projects are worthless because they are an afterthought. He crowds a bunch of work into the last week of class, then changes it. Extra credit's not worth it either.

This class is not what most expected. While you can tell Dr. Umoja is knowledgeable, the class structure is hardly there and the conversation goes on many different tangents. The readings are interesting and mandatory for doing well in the course. Take advantage of the extra credits, each one completed is a point towards your FINAL grade

Dr. Umoja is very intelligent and very easy going. WONDERFUL MATERIAL IF YOU PAY ATTENTION AND DO YOU OWN RESEARCH. You need to be able to be independent to take his class. You can't be needy or unimaginative. He can talk for a really long time, but the inspiration I received was worth it, GREAT TEACHER

Dr. Umoja is one the best professors I've ever had. It's true that he is a bit unorthodox but he is an awesome professor nonetheless. He gives us time to turn in late assignments. He gave us another chance on our essays when we didn't do that well. the problem is his class his fun but the students forget that they actually have to read ;)

Never take his class. He is a horrible teacher. His class has no structure, too many jokes, no agenda, and his lectures (if you can call them that) are weak. The exams are over stuff not covered in the class and exams are graded by a TA. If you want to lower your IQ and GPA then take dr.umoja.

He was a good professor, kinda unorthodox but cool and kept it real. It was the first time I took and AAS class and I learned a lot of great things. And his rough language made the class even better it showed he was laid back and related to us.

you HAVE to go to class or he drops you a letter grade. do the xc, it adds one point to your final grade and he gives out at least 12-15 of them. no tests. easy teacher, funny just come to class!! i have taken him many times and dont know what these other people are talking about. he's not that hard, do the work and you'll get a good grade

His language was offensive, he was disrespectful to others beliefs, he was all over the place with his teaching. I was very disappointed due to I had taken him in the past and his attitude was much different then. Most of our assignments we didn't get back until the end of the semester so we didn't know our grades. Take him at your own risk

Umoja makes things more difficult than any other AA studies teacher. On the tests that we had for the whole semester only one person made an A. Out of all my classes for the semester this is the one i worried about the most. The way the grading system is designed it is hard to fail if you do the comunity service

Comment:

Class was very educational and enlightening; I even took my children (14,17) to a few classes. Influential guest speakers visit weekly. You'll periodically work in small groups, however there are no tests, quizzes or final. This class requires extensive reading which you'll appreciate in the end. Book report and final project required.

I dreaded going to this class for the first six weeks. After that the class was cool. Once you get past his jokes and laughing, Dr. Umoja is a very intelligent guy. Graded fairly. Assigned a group project, which sucked (working with lazy people). Dr. Umoja is one of those professors you will appreciate when the class is over.

Dr. Umoja keeps it real ugly. He is unclear as to what to do in class, his grading policy is very inconsistent and he plays way too much. He is not funny and everything is a joke. He needs to go teach at a school that doesnt take education seriously.

Dr. Umoja is always keeps it real. I learned a so much from our discussions. He has shifted how I think of myself as a New Afrikan woman. He is approachable and truly dedicated to the upliftment of all Black people. I love him!
