Okay Professor. He is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to answer questions, but he treats his students like they're history majors or PhD students. When he gets extremely "passionate," he can seem angry. He kind of becomes scary when he constantly LOOKING for specific word. That's annoying too... why does he try so hard to get ONE word.

We are graded on two papers a midterm and a final. Everything is essay format and it is really hard to get an A. However, he allows you to resubmit the 2 papers after he grades them for a higher grade. Very nit-picky while grading but leaves good feedback.

This is the worst class I have ever taken. He makes you read thousand page books and documents PER WEEK. Then expects you to come to class and be fluent in chinese, literally. He also gets frustrated when your confused or unsure of names he is referring to . I

Nice guy, class itself is easy. You just sit there for an hour. But my gosh the essays and tests are hard. Every graded thing is an essay. He grades really hard, you do get a lot better over time but still. Read the textbook. I didnt read it and just skimmed it the day before the essays and it's an enormous skim. Listen to him. Final is cumulative.

Great professor, tough grader. The class is interesting but your grade is basically how well you can analyze a document. 2 take homes, midterm and final are all essays. Very interesting in class. Hilarious too

Great lecturer and a funny guy. He is very knowledgeable about Chinese History but is a tough grader. There is two essay papers, a mid-term paper and a final exam paper, it's basically an essay class.

I really loved taking this class and it's all due to him. I had no interest in History but he actually made it sound really fascinating and I felt smarter after every class. He clearly knows what he's talking about, he's passionate about the material and you can feel that he's giving it his all. It's not an easy class but you won't regret taking it

Meyer is a tough grader. He is very fair though. His lectures, I though, were pretty boring. He would read straight from the primary source textbooks. He didn't give great background information. He has a midterm, final and two papers. He lets you rewrite both of the papers for a better grade. The midterm and final are in class essays.

Professor Meyer is a wonderful teacher. He is very intuitive and shows great interest in history- especially that of Chinese. I would definitely take him again. However, this is not a an easy A class. You have to work for your grade.

This course was not "a walk-of-the-park, easy A" course. This course, no matter what topic that any professor instructed, takes a lot of reading, a lot of writing, and a lot of participation. To survive this course, you need to put more than just a good amount of effort. This professor did tried his best in teaching the material for this course.

He's nice professor, no homework just readings before each class. However, his lectures are boring and he jumps around from one topic to another. . Anyway, I'm still waiting on my grade for this class. The final was 2 weeks ago, and he's slow to grade. BTW, I did well on all essays and midterm.

Nice man, but kind of old fashion scholar, although he dances Gangnam Style in class! He is a strict grader. If you can read all the materials before class, you will enjoy his class. His class really opened my mind.

His short lectures, as well as discussions with the students are inspiring, and I'm definitely enjoyed. In his courses, attendance is mandatory and a good portion of your grade. However, the bulk of your grade consists of three long, but doable essays. If you take any course with him, then you must put a lot of effort to get the grade you deserve.

Wonderful person, amazing professor. This is not the place to go to temporarily memorize facts and spit them back out for a test. Meyer wants to see you think about historical epistemology, so if independent thinking is not your forte, stay well away!
