Comment:
Bob Meister was the hands down, best professor I have ever had in my academic career. I see some of the prior posts saying he is 'not connected' when this only demonstrates how connected he really is. If you care about the history of philosophy ,Nietzsche, German Idealism, Sartre, Marx, Freud and then even Lacan, this class if for you, best prof .

Comment:
Bob Meister is just too old to be a good professor he just doesn't connect. Im not trying to say he isn't a brilliant academic. But he just is in his own world. He assigned way way too many reading. HISC 1 is a horrible representation of the History of Conciseness department. His class is horrible, other classes in the department are great.

Comment:
I took Politics of Rel & 105D. His lectures are almost impossible to understand! It seems like he can't bring his thinking down to a level that students can comprehend. I did the reading, but he made it hard to differentiate between his thoughts & what the reading was actually putting forward. Genius, maybe, but needs to simplify/clarify lectures

M is a true thinker and an extraordinary teacher. Some students are not interested in courses which are not designed merely to prepare one for the job market, but introduce one to whole worlds of thought. This is the class you want if you have a deep desire to learn, and are willing to read as if you might actually find some truth on the pages.

Meister is probably the second best professor I had at ucsc. This is one of those extremely rare classes here at ucsc that is not about regurgitating but thinking and actually learning. Two thumbs up.

Bob Meister is perhaps the best and most inspiring teacher I have ever had. Others say his lectures are opaque, but I would say dense. Take it if you are interested in political theory, are willing to tackle a heavy but enlightening reading load, and wish to learn from a genius who is passionate.

Professor Meister is obviously very interested in what he teaches, but is absolutely horrible at teaching. Lectures are terrible and boring. I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about most of the time. The reading load is also enormous. Do NOT take this unless you have EXTENSIVE knowledge of every author on the reading list!

Very difficult to follow, uses examples they could be considered culturally biased and/or anti-Semitic. syllabus and course notes are incomprehensible and not all of the readings are made available through the class (prepare to searcg for articles he didn't provide or mention to buy in the syllabus) I have lost all respect for this field of study.

I knew nothing of religion before his class - now i feel like i am fully aware of the politics within religious grounds, but the class has trouble expanding to current political affairs (it does a couple times though). His lectures are hard to follow, keep alert! Love him though :) BEYOND INTERESTING READING!!!

Knowledgeable man, very poor teacher. Following his train of thought was always a guessing game: You can tell he knows very much, but cannot convey it accurately for the life of him. Most of the reading he assigned he did not engage at all, which is what made the class so easy. The TAs did all grading, so that's where the ease of the class lies.

Meister is extremely intelligent, but he does not relate the material he teaches well to students. Politics of religion had nothing to do with current politics, it was really politics within religion. Not my cup of tea, but if you like religious philosophy this class is for you!

A very intelligent man. Definitely do the readings although he seems to stray from the syll. He clarifies exactly what is important in class if you can decipher it from the tangents he go off on in lecture. Definitely an interesting course and good to discuss in section.

Pretty smart with subject matter, taught class as a philosophy class rather than a politics class though.

The man is brilliant. Don't misunderstand me. Unfortunately, he isn't able to tone down his brilliance for our inferior undergrad minds. His lectures are incomprehensible. He uses unnecessarily florid language to make obscure theological points, all of which are vague and strictly metaphorical. It's a politics course. Lets talk more politics.

The most brilliant professor I have had at UCSC. I went through three years of college wondering if I would ever get a class that was more than glorified High School. Meister's class changed that, offering readings from the intellectuals of our time and ideas that are current and give insight into our world.

Excellent. Life-changing. Brilliant. Etc. Meister is a necessity at UCSC. His courses should be a prerequisite for any upper division politics course. Also a very nice and helpful guy. A+.

Bob is a users manual to the software that is the human self.To anyone that says "I don't get Bob Meister"; in doing so you imagine another who does "get" Bob, and anything you think about another is something you think about yourself. Realize that saying "I don't get it" really means "I don't get it yet" and then you will get it.

I hope to see this man teaching for as long as he can stand it! He wasAMAZING.His lectures are unbelievable, it is like sitting through a hypnosis program, they are so addicting. He is literally like a drug, you have him once and he leaves his mark, and addiction. I could not rate him well enough in words, he is pure luminous TALENT. Don't miss out

most brilliant man i've ever listened to. his lectures are like a teletransportation into pure luminous talent. the way he speaks, carries himself, phrases his words, language he uses is Icredible. There are no words to put into how amazing this mans mind is. Any bad review on here must be from those that are not ready for LIFE and Truth.
