Good - Makes lectures funny. Bad - Doesn't give enough practice. Homework questions are vague.

Amazing prof, but a pretty hard class. 200 goes over A TON of material. Homework is worth quite a bit, so it's definitely worth doing. You'll probably have at least one email sent out a week to clarify something on the homework.

Love Gladman. Second course with him and he is still one of my favorite profs. Gives off distinct 'cool dad' vibes, cracks great jokes and is really reasonable in terms of grading. For the record fill in the blanks saved me on the midterm. His homeworks and midterms are really tough but rewarding.

I didn't like planetary science at all before I came into this course, yet coming out of this course I have a serious appreciation for the topic, almost certainly because of Gladman. He is super funny (if you like really bad jokes) and an all around kewl guy which keeps the lectures very interesting. His midterm killed me (fill in the blanks!!!).

Overall, Prof. Gladman is awesome! His lectures are really interesting and if you have even the slightest interest in planetary science, you will love this course! Midterm was ridiculously hard (BEWARE FILL IN THE BLANKS; not easy!), but he scaled it, which was very nice. He is also a pretty funny guy, which makes coming to lectures really fun.

It was really refreshing to take a course with Dr. Gladman. His lectures are interesting, his homework is fair and even fun. His midterms are brutally hard but he scales. Makes reallyyyy lame jokes all the time, but most people can forgive him for that. Loves cgs units for some godforsaken reason. Beware the fill in the blank questions

Taking this course as a CS student, the materials revealed to be both challenging and interesting. Professor Gladman is very knowledgeable and humorous, however, his homework is somewhat difficult and require lots of efforts to complete. Be aware that the last quarter of the course introduces GR and could be very difficult.

The course could be much better. It says there are no pre-reqs but the prof assumes you have taken first year astronomy

Professor Gladman was a fantastic lecturer. The course did move rather quickly, (along with the prof's slides,) but there were no tests aside from the midterm and final, and the homework was marked fairly, which may have been the TAs. All the course information was available online. 10/10 real kewl guy.

Brett Gladman is a great lecturer who really inspires students to learn more about astrophysics. The tests were much more difficult than the regular topics covered so be well prepared

Comment:
The most unorganized course I have ever taken at UBC. The slides and assigned readings are never posted on time. The majority of homework questions are vague and unclear. Clarifications arrive a day before the due date. Lecture slides are mostly pictures with little to almost no commentary. Dr. Gladman is funny though and tries to make class fun.

Exams are pretty brutal, but once you're used to how he write them, it's fine. Assignments are great for boosting your grade (10 or so). Inspires people to be passionate about Astro, doing work for the class is fun rather than a chore. He tries to make you do the readings, but you don't have to. Does chalkboard lessons sometimes, so you must attend

Gladman is a very interesting guy. If you don't have a physicsastronomy background, this course may be very difficult for you. There's a LOT of content, so keep up with the readings. Go to lectures so you don't miss him dressing up like Isaac Newton. Overall, there's good reason why this guy is one of the most respected astronomers in the country.

Prof Gladman has designed a course that enables one to process a large amount of material, and still do well. This class is by no means a GPA booster, but if you keep up with the readings, and complete the online work, you will get a fair grade. He is a very helpful prof, and genuinely wants his students to do well. Extremely interesting course.

Prof Gladman is one of the most inspiring and fair professors I've ever had the pleasure of having. He really cares about student learning and makes concepts readily accessible through complex yet intuitively sensical examples. His exams were not a walk in the park, but they weren't brutal either.

Overall a great prof. He's very structured and organized. Expectations/instructions are very clear and changes made are made very clear. Would highly recommend attending lectures. Textbook is important for completing quizzes, but you could get away with lecture slides and knowing quiz answers for MT and Final. Great teacher in and outside of class.
