I highly recommend Dr. Brown for COM 115! The class was challenging, but discussions and speeches were fun to complete. I really liked that we submitted rough drafts a week or so before the speech was due. This gave us time to get feedback and make changes. It also helped me be better prepared instead of trying to cram it in during speech week.

I took him online. The course was well organized and he had clear rubrics for what he wanted in the speeches. There are no tests, but there are quizzes on the chapters. There are four speeches an Introduction, Demonstration, Persuasive and Informative speech. He was fast to get grades back to us and quick to respond to emails.

I took him for public speaking online. It was pretty easy with discussions and speeches. If you do the work you will be fine. There are 4 presentations and some quizzes and discussions. Everything I expected in an online class. Overall, a good class to take and I am happy.

This was my first online class and I was a little apprehensive to take it. I really enjoyed the class and it moved fast. Being an older student, I felt that I was really welcomed into the course and did not feel intimidated by the younger students. He made it a really open and engaging course.

I struggled with the idea of even taking public speaking. I had to presentations in high school and I hated them every time. I took an online class because I thought it would be easier on my nerves. I ended up liking the class because Mr. Brown helped me so much with rough drafts and issues I had.

I took the online public speaking class because I needed it for my major and I did not have the time to take it on campus because of work. It was a tough class but I think they all are I sent him some early outlines and he told me what to fix. that helped alot. The quizzes and stuff were easy.

Comment:

He is the toughest grader I have ever known as a teacher. He grades extremely strict and takes off for aspects other teachers never have. This tough grading leads to a lot of poor grades despite how much time and hard work you put into the class. If you care about your GPA at all, do not take him for public speaking.

Dr. Brown helped me when I struggled with my first speech. He gave me advice on how to do better. He looked at my rough drafts for the other two speeches and I was able to get an A on both. He also helped me when I could not find any research on my topic. He was easy to get ahold of which I had problems with other teachers but not him.

Comment:

One of the best online classes I have taken. It is a GEN ED and I didn't mind it at all. I could count on him to get back to me pretty quick when I had questions. He sent out reminders all of the time and that made me not forget about any due dates. I had some trouble with the first speech but he helped me to get better. 10/10 recommend!

He's a nice guy, but he's way too much "by the book". Won't accept any late work, grades very strict, gives a TON of homework. Weekly quizzes, journals, discussions, outlines, readings, etc. Although he's a very fast grader and responds to emails quickly.

This was a great class. I am soooooo glad I took it online. He grades fair, but you really need to send him rough drafts. He gave me so much feedback it was easy to change to get a high grade when I did what he said. Loved it! I wish he taught other classes!
