Terrifyingly brilliant, and the nicest lady ever. Smartest woman I have ever met. If you're willing to work your butt off every class you will learn an incredible amount from her in a very short time. If you're not a serious English student, do not put yourself through a Burroughs class. Take another professor's class.

Comment:

There's a difference between a class that's intellectually challenging and a class that's made hard solely due to the teacher's power trips and insistence upon piling on unclear assignment after unclear assignment. I wish I could say that Ms. Burrough's methods included more of the former than the latter. A truly ineffective teaching style.

While she may be one of the toughest teachers I've encountered, I have had a remarkable experience with her. While she let me explore the subject matter on my own, she was by far my most supportive professor. If you're not too afraid of her, respectfully ask for her help. Not only will she appreciate your concern for the class, your grade will soar

Burroughs the most challenging professors currently teaching at Wells, as she believes that your brain was given to you for a reason. Her class will kill you with awesome. When you attend her office hours she is approachable and easy going, the only difficulty is getting to her office hours as they are rare and your time with her is restricted.

Comment:

Burroughs has a reputation for being one of the toughest profs on campus and she definitely is! But over the years I've noticed that she isn't always there for her students. She doesn't show up for meetings and she's hard to get a hold of. Still, you will learn a TON and you will never forget how to write a 'debatable assertion'. Do beware!!!

Everything about her class was amazing and the fact that she was just so amazing made it THAT much more amazing. I never really liked English or did that well in it but I never missed a class because I loved it so much (and I skip alot). But her class was the only class that I would never miss.

I love Catherine. She is enthusiastic, passionate about teaching, and even more passionate about making sure that students fully understand and appreciate what they are reading. I love that I seldom get an A on a paper in her class. She challenges me based on what she thinks I can do-- and she thinks I can do a lot, which is awesome.
