Comment:
Wise has a lot of knowledge but he does not know how to organize his own thoughts to teach his students. His lectures are often scattered and grading criteria is not clear. Assigns so many books I doubt anyone actually finished reading them and some we didnt even read. Interesting professor but not one I would take again. Tough class overall.

Wise is a pretty good prof. He's interesting, though his lectures tend to drag on, and he spent a lot of time talking about anything but the book we were discussing. You are graded on a midterm, a final, a final essay, and attendance. You aren't sure what your grade is until the quarter is over because he doesn't update Canvas. Decent overall.

Wonderful knowledge and insight on subjects covered. Taught a fascinating, applicable, and thoroughly educational class. As long as you go to class and read the material covered, you'll do well. Otherwise, I imagine it would be quite the challenge.

It's a privilege to have taken a class with Professor Wise! He's knowledgeable (to an almost intimidating degree) and prepared for great discussions. The content was sometimes overwhelming and difficult to take, and going to class is a necessity, but he's a fair grader and you will certainly take something away from his teachings.

Ten years ago, Prof.Wise taught me several subjects. He taught us two main things. First, asking the right questions is more important than finding answers. Second, the power of magalothymia. The only real "Teacher" who inspired me greatly.

Professor Wise was fantastic in this class. I came into it with a vague interest and left enthralled with the topic of religion. He is extremely intelligent and from one day you respect the intelligence and passion he has for this subject. Fair grading, all the tests were essays in class except the final which was take home. Excellent class!

An intrepid traveler and cosmopolitan thinker, surely he is the English Department's Indiana Jones. I hear he has a taste for fine whiskey, and sleeps on a bearskin carpet with a blade of pure ivory strapped to his shin in case the foreign mafias find him in the night, he saves maidens from despots, he is despised by the Wicked & loved by the Good.

Scriptural Lit with Wise was extremely interesting and very useful. He doesn't really answer student questions though but instead tends to go off in a completely different direction. He knows what he is talking about though and Eng majors will enjoy that all exams are in essay format.

I really liked Professor Wise. He is really intelligent, and I learned a lot in his class. The only thing that frustrated me was not having a sense of what grade I would have since he used a check system for in class assignments and we didn't get graded work back at all. Also he is a little hard to follow in lecture sometimes. But overall great!

Professor Wise is brilliant and really personable. He still remembers months later! He is incredibly intelligent, and sometimes his lectures are a little difficult to follow because of this, but it doesn't detract from the depth of his classes. If you're willing to work hard then you'll get so much out of his classes. Definitely take one with him!

I would have to disagree with the below poster. Professor Wise looks more like Sean Connery, than George Clooney. And he is more like Socrates than Plato. I think we practically reenacted The Symposium in class a couple times this year. LOL. God bless him.

If Platp and George Clooney mated, you might have Prof. Wise. Like Plato, he is obsessed with Socrates and, well, Plato. I can totally picture him walking around campus with an eager group of students, wearing one of those cute Athenian dresses. His lectures are sort of a stream of consciousness, but oh, what a consciousness! The man is a genius.

Perhaps the most intelligent and (yes) wise professor I have ever met. I feel privileged to study with Chris. Reading, attendance, and participation are all musts. But you will learns more than I can express in this limited space. Go into his office hours, have a conversation with him. I promise you will be amazed.

See, it just happened to become springtime during this class (Nihilism). So I will always associate the joy of springtime with nihilism and derrida and dr.wise... I generally don't like ratemyprofessor, but i heard his page was a must see. Very flattering and funny!, and he deserves every compliment.

If you show up to class, participate and put a little thought/insight into your papers you will do good. Not too much reading or work. He does not give you expectations before your first assignment is due and you won't have a clue about your grade until you are done. But,you will have a deeper understanding of the world after taking this class.

This man has a twinkle in his eye. He reminds me of professor Dumbledore, (and I have a crush on Dumbledore)! His twinkle is due to his enthusiasm and true knowledge of the subject. I loved his class... he intimidating because his "Wise-i-tude", but always open for student participation.

a beautiful man. Easily the best teacher I have ever had in my life. Really knows what he's talking about. As a person, I can't figure him out- apparently he dances professionally. He's a hottie, so I'd go just to watch him!

Christopher Wise has such a lucky name. Not only is he Wise, but he is unbelievably worldly, having taught under dangerous African dictatorships and many other wild places. Go let some of his Wisdom rub off on you. These classes are hard; come seeking a challenge. Christopher has a very cute smile, I think he's quite handsome.
