Comment:
Fortenberry isn't so bad. Lots of papers, but follow APA and put forth a little effort and you're good. He grades harder if you're disrespectful/loud in class, and miss more than twice. His grading criteria isn't clear but you can ask any former student. Wouldn't recommend if you have a heavy class load.

Comment:
As a professor, Dr. Fortenberry is disorganized, unclear on assignment/grading criteria, and a tough grader. As a person, he is offensive, sarcastic, and belittling to students. He constantly boasts about himself. During lectures, he makes awkward jokes, and if you don't laugh, he gets angry. Avoid at all costs!

The tags I wanted were not listed. If they were they would be 1. not accessible 2. confusing grading criteria & 3. no feedback. This class was really chaotic. There were probably 20-30 things that were graded and I got back the quiz grades (8) and the final paper. Very stressful.

I wrote more papers for this class than in any of the classes for the 2 degrees I have . I was in a constant state of stress over the ridiculous work load for a regular class (not thesis class). We had three 6-10 page essays and a 25pg paper with video presentations, every week at least 6-250 word min forums essays, 250+ page reading, 6hr+lect

Dr. Fortenberry is an excellent teacher. The material learned in COM102 is essentially useless, but Dr. Fortenberry is relatively entertaining. Do the work that is assigned and study for the tests, because they are ridiculous.

He is a fantastic teacher, but the material he teaches is totally useless. I work in the real world of broadcasting and journalism and I did not learn one applicable thing in any of his classes, except maybe for Public Relations. All you learn is history, which is fascinating, but nothing usefull that you can apply to real life.

Comment:
COM 102 was frustrating in the sense that the information we learned was not inherently interesting. However, Dr. Fortenberry makes class relatively entertaining. Word of advice: STUDY for his tests. It might not seem like you need to. You do. An A is definitely not impossible to attain, but you'll have to work pretty hard for it.

I don't understand why students complain about his classes. If you study hard then you can pass his class it just takes a little more effort. I passed Mass Media with an A and I enjoyed his lectures because he would put corny humor in them. Now he is a tough teacher no doubt about that but I don't see what the big deal is!

Though known as a difficult class, if you study you can do well. The best thing to do is study from day one and when test time comes around you won't have to stress out. An all-nighter in his class is impossible for it's too much information to retain in one day.

Dr. Fortenberry is a very knowledeable teacher, but one that may ask too much from his students. He really loves research papers, but sometimes the material doesn't call for one (such as Media Sales). I enjoyed him while I had him, but I'm glad I'm through with him.
