Comment:

Taking a film studies class is like taking an english, writing, political science, history, and film class all in one. Although his lectures are very liberal, he is very passionate about literature and film. Two six page essays, and two finals. It was a challenging class, but well worth it if you stick through it.

With a passion for the subject, Armstrong delivers a fun, light hearted class that helps us to become better critics and more deeply aware of the cinematic notions of film. Although he gets off topic, he always gets back on. Midterms and finals require in-class testing and take home essays.

A perfect example of one who has to teach, because he sure can't do. One glance at his syllabus and written assignments (meandering multi-page ramblings) proves Dan isn't qualified to teach about writing in the real world. He is personable, intelligent, and actually reads your papers...but he's not quite on the same page as the rest of us. Avoid.

I was a movie buff going into this class, and I still learned a lot and had fun! Dan's class is one that makes you feel like you've learned something. The only downside is the outside of class screenings. Getting an A in this class is very "doable".

He is not a difficult teacher. As long as you do the readings and come to class, you should get at least a B. He encourages class discussion. For a person who is interested in film, it is an enjoyable class,but it might be a bit on the boring side for those who just take it for the credits. He's very accomidating to students needs.

He is the most egotistical jerk I have ever met. He always talked about how he didn't get paid enough, and was being kept in the lower class because he chose to be a teacher. Teach! Don't complain about being a teacher! Don't take him, not worth the time or money!

Horrible class!! He is way to into how much he knows about the 50's and not what you need to know. Has way to much Homework for a 3 credit class and grades your papers like a hound dog looking for errors. If you take this class I feel sorry for you.

Dan is a wonderful instructor. Film in the 50's is excellent, and his Intro to Film Studies classes are also very good. Very helpful in learning new ways to analyze films. Interesting course.
