I took GWS 100 as a freshmen at Washington & Jefferson. I thought it was a great class. I do not like lecture style classes, since the class was group discussion I liked it. The class discussions help better your understandings for the readings. We did have ALOT of reading, but most are interesting and they further your understanding of the course.

Dr. Shiller is an amazing person to talk to outside of class. However, if your opinions differ from her opinions, watch out because she tends to ignore the comments you make. I cannot say that I would take another English class with her, but I would recommend taking her Intro to GWS.

She is horrible. Randomly grades papers and attendance, says she "doesn't like to give A's". You never know what she wants, even if you ask her. DON'T EVER TAKE HER.

She really helps you become a better writer. Class was really laid back and you get to see examples of papers that she thinks are well written. She will really push you to think more carefully about your writing, but if you put in the extra effort, you will see an improvement.
