Comment:
He needs to rework the class and his teaching method. His lectures are really long and meandering and mostly unhelpful. 80% and above in the class is an A. Don't get excited- you're almost guaranteed to miss that 20% on every single assignment. Don't take the class: you'll never use anything you learned in it ever again.

If you're planning on taking this class to satisfy a math requirement, take something else. You either get the material or you don't. For me, it was super hard. Ullman's really smart so the subject makes sense to him, but he doesn't do a very good job of explaining it in simple terms. Grades in the class can range anywhere from a 98 to a 15.

Ullman is a math whiz. Very kind and very willing to help and get his students to succeed. Lectures are so incredibly boring. Class is nowhere near as difficult as everyone is saying, just pay attention/read the textbook (which he wrote) and it's an easy A. Easy quizzes, 2 midterms, a final, and some homeworks. Very lenient grader too, above 80%A.

Super hard class. Professor Ullman is really sweet but I struggled so hard in this class. It's also kind of a made up subject so there's not a lot of outside help that you can go to. Take any other math if you can because I was STRUGGLING

If you're looking for an easy math class this is not it. You may think that if you go to lectures and study it'll work out. Trust me that won't happen. The prof is a nice guy but speaks in riddles and you won't be able to find any resources to help you b/c he made up the subject. If you take anything away from this comment, don't take this class.

WOW this class was so hard I had to withdraw. Lots of people seemed to have taken AP Calc already and grading on scale means that you will probably struggle. Wild range in test scores some people got 1/40 on the midterm(average was 19)However cool guy who gives random trivia at the beginning of class which was fun. Math jumped a lot hard to follow

Ullman's a really sweet and funny guy. He starts off class with a relatively random trivia question. He's also really approachable and willing to help. That being said, his tests are brutal. I walked into the final with a solid A in the course, and then that plummeted after the final. Make sure to build a good foundation throughout the course.

Professor Ullman is kind of quirky and odd but really nice. He's SUPER passionate about math. This class isn't too hard if you attend and put some effort in. It's mostly logical thinking. It isn't too hard but it's not too easy. If you are really good with logical things, you don't really need to go to class, just read the textbook and you'll do ok

Ullman tackles material with genuine enthusiasm that I can only equate in the STEM field to Tom Lehrer. Memorization isn't emphasized as greatly as being able to work out problems. Relaxed grader (above an 80% is A range). Ullman literally wrote the Math and Politics textbook, so he knows the material extremely well.

Ullman was very clear in his expectations of students from the beginning of the semester. Webassigns took forever, but they were helpful and necessary to understanding the material. Calc 3 is hard no matter who you take it with, and if you're looking to retain and understand the material, take it with Ullman. He wants students to succeed.

Professor specifically makes exams hard to "challenge" his students. Has a 30% weight of the final mark on pop quizzes, higher than that of the midterm. Was not really clear and would ramble on in class. Avoid if possible.

The best math teacher I have ever had. He expects you dedicate a lot of time to the class, but if you do you will certainly get an A. Makes lots of jokes during class that are very funny if you are paying attention. I would definitely take him again.

I definitely wouldn't take a class with him again. His grading criteria are ridiculous (30% of your grade is based on pop quizzes) and he makes you spend at least 7-8 hours a week doing webassign which does not help you in understanding the material. Makes the class unnecessarily difficult and is very unclear in lectures. Avoid if possible.

Easily the most ineffective professor I've had at GW. Makes Calc 3, which is usually considered the easiest calculus class, unnecessarily hard. Be prepared to do about 8-10 hours of webassign per week, and have 30% of your grade be based on pop quizzes.

I was told that Multi was the easiest calc course, and it may be if you do not have Ullman. I DO NOT recommend taking him unless you are forced to. The amount of work he expected from the class was absurd and the tests were impossible. He is terrible with partial credit and you will have a rough time if you do not know everything exactly.

Very hard class, by nature of the material. Took it with Carl as the TA and he helped a ton. Ullman is a good teacher, but is so brilliant that a lot of times I found his explanations going over my head. A TON of work, you will spend most your time on this class.

With Prof. Ullman, Math and Politics is not a joke. He grades on a huge curve and it's necessary. My final grade was 79.5%, which turned out to be an A- with the curve. If you have questions on the homework, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He is willing to help right up to the minute the assignment is due. If you do the homework correctly, tests are easy.

The key to succeeding in his class is understanding the type of questions he likes to put on his quizzes/exams. Tends to explain difficult proofs, but those can be summarized in a sentence (and that's all you need to know for his tests). There are 2 midterms and his grading scale is incredible. He is very interested in the topic, and is a nice guy

His final is like a mathematical competition....very difficult. That's why his syllabus said "if you got above 80% of this course, you can get A range." So....you must be as smart as "mathematical person" and as hardworking as bee otherwise you will suffer great pain and receive a bad grade...
