Dr. Sugg is a HORRIBLE professor. Office hrs? Dream on. Rude. He hardly lectures AT ALL. Nearly impossible 2 decipher what he expects. U will type 150+pgs of "busy work" that will b graded AGAIN via notebook. His grades r symbols which he WON'T explain 2U. U will find urself NUTS & scared 4 ur grade in this torture chamber of a class.!DO NOT TAKE!

He expects you to hold on to work from the beginning of the semester that he's already graded. He is extremely vague with his expectations. He is up there in age which isnt an issue, but hes just not all there at times. Does not make the class interesting, but is a nice enough man just too unclear.

took 2 classes with Mr. Sugg (film and twenties) and he is a super cool guy. There is work, but nothing too crazy. there is one thing, you must be on top of your grades by constantly checking in with him after class to make sure he hasn't made any mistakes or registered your homework. its a minor inconvenience for a fairly easy professor

Very helpful! Likes Group discussion and will call on you before the film is shown. Requires outlines of each chapter. Gives out worksheets for some films. Gives a study guide that really helps for the exams. Great Professor. Easy class

Comment:

Very nice guy but terrible teacher. He should not be teaching graduate courses. His assignments are vague and deviate from the syllabus, yet he marks off heavily for not meeting his ever-shifting criteria. The assignments (LOTS of them) are busy work from which I learned very little despite the time and effort I put into them. Very disappointing.

Prof. Sugg is pretty straight forward. Just read the txt, come to class and be ready to answer questions because he will call on you. Whatever he says is going to be on the test will be on the test. Write well because he grades hard!!!

I have had this professor for 3 classes already. I enjoy his personality and i know what to expect. Come to class, do the work and you will get a good grade. Some students complain about the daily work, but it helps in the end. And, as for papers, write well (he expects that) or you will see a low grade. he is kind and reasonable though.

Professor does require a lot of daily work which i didnt like at first, but i found that work abundantly useful for study and review when it came exam time. there is a method to that madness. He is funny (in a quirky way) which i liked and he is kind hearted and with his students. Come to class, do the work and you will do well.

This teacher was the most useless teacher I have ever had in all my college life. He told me that I should improve my English grammar by telling me to "make it better, correctly"... I don't know how teachers who don't teach are allowed to.

you have to do the work to understand the subject and get something out of it. the prof knows his stuff but he's not really good at discussing it. do all the outlines and save and participate & go to class and you'll do well. he is a nice man, at the end of his career and he really does care.

Paralyzingly boring. He looses track of his thoughts mid sentence, stares off into space, and then fills in the black of his incomprehensible rhetoric with the statement, "and so on" or "um...you know...stuff like that or whatever". I am paying to learn not to pay a psychologist to undo the damage his idiocy caused. Dont give him your time.

Took him for two semesters already - Humanities and Film. A lot of work for both, but easy work, therefore an easy A/B. Very-very nice guy, seems like he really likes what he teaches. He'll be away for a semester or two, but when he comes back, do take him. Hi prof Sugg - I know you read these! :)

Prof. Sugg knows his stuff! If you are looking for an easy A do not take this class. There is a short essay due at the beginning of each class and a portfolio at the end of the semester. He is willing to work with students. I guarantee that you will leave his class smarter.
