Comment:
People give Prof Black a bad wrap, but I think he's great. His lectures helped me to understand the material, textbook assignments challenged me (making exams easier), and the exams themselves were very fair. We had to read int'l econ news which made theory feel relevant. I appreciated his use of real world examples. I will say he's a tough grader.

Comment:
Prof. Black is very knowledgable. However, he is an older guy and does not use any technology or powerpoints. Therefore be prepared to take hand written notes in class or from the textbook. HW assignments are old school handwritten assignments but are not too hard. The easiest way to do well is to go to his office hours before the exams.

Great class with an even better professor. Black is an amazing speaker. He doesn't post anything online though, so you have to go to class to get the notes and turn in exercises and bi-weekly reports. He also will determine your grade based on attendance. Took the class honors and it was amazing. Textbook is a good supplement but not detrimental.

Professor Black is a very nice and intelligent professor. But, the class is very dry and difficult especially if you are not a fan of econ. The exams are very difficult but he does give partial credit. Make sure to read the textbook for the exam or you won't pass. Hard class so try avoiding if you don't have to take it.

Professor Black is very knowledgeable (PhD from MIT) and while lectures can be very dry, he does a great job of teaching the subject. The class has a very standard grading scheme with two tests and a final, as well as numerous homework assignments that are easy one problem a piece ones. There is also a participation grade.

He is one of the most fair professors. Genuine and nice guy. Tough class for those who struggle with Econ. READ THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS AND YOU WILL DO WELL. Look at PAST EXAMS and DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Work and you will be rewarded. You can't sleep and do well in this class. You need the book. Love him. He curves at the end.

ECON300 is a pain no matter what, but he made it straightforward and easy to understand. Do the HWs, go to class, and follow along in the book and you'll do fine on the exams. Barely went to class and I'm on track to get a B+.

3 exams, 2 quizzes, hw everynight. hw is easy though, keeps you on track with the material. course works seems to get hard for the 2nd exam, but he gives insane partial credit. i never went to classes and still got B's on the exams, he's boring and will put you to sleep but he grades exams so easily so don't be worried

Smart guy. The class was pretty tough and he doesn't really make it that exciting. His tests are pretty hard. Homework every day, usually just 1 problem. Overall, decent professor

He assigns daily homework, but it doesn't take long and is very helpful in preparing for the tests. The tests aren't incredibly easy, but aren't hard either. The reading was pretty light in general, we only covered 10 chapters or so. The class will be easier for anyone with a stronger math background.

Tough class. Expect to read the textbook a lot. A lot of math in this course which is not all that easy sometimes. Black will cover a concept in class which will seem easy, however, the problem sets and exam questions are much more difficult than he explains it in class. Not very approachable but if you study a lot and go over notes you wont fail.

It was a difficult but fair class. Only extraordinary effort or intelligence would have produced extraordinary results. I found the tests very difficult. No complaints overall. I think I got the grade I deserved.

He's a nice guy and a good teacher. Hard tests. He is willing to help, but don't miss class. I missed a few and he was a bit... off-putting about helping me catch up. I would recommend the class to anyone interested in economics.

Not much different from any other micro-econ class. Black keeps it interesting (if that is possible) with his stories about his courtroom appearances. Exams were fair and the book is extensivley used. Overall a great Professor.

One of my best professors of all time. Everybody that I have ever known that has taken a class from Dave Black has been completely captivated by home. He's a great teacher and extremely helpful. Definitely go to office hours if you need help. He won a teaching award recently and he definitely deserved it. AWESOME!
