Really nice, friendly professor, whose lectures are helpful and available online. Quizzes and homework are much of an issue, due to the amount of resources available for help; however, the exams are very difficult. Without practicing problems religiously, you won't score higher than a C. Easy to make simple, stupid mistakes.

Professor Herrick's lectures were pretty good actually. I learned a lot and his slides are very easy to follow. He posts notes online which was very useful. His quizzes aren't hard if you do the practice quizzes online that he posts but the midterms and final were much harder than the practice ones and it's easy to make stupid mistakes.

Great professor, but they quizzes and tests are harder than the practice quizzes and tests. The homeworks are usually pretty difficult and you have to be an avid go'er of the Super Chem study sessions to complete the homeworks. The quizzes and tests don't have many problems on them, so even missing a few questions can hurt your grade.

The homework is do-able and so are the quizzes, but the tests are my weakest point. I feel like I'm pretty smart but I get C's and low B's on the exams. The practice exams are easier than the actual exams and the exam questions are a bit more tricky. You might make dumb mistakes by not paying attention to minor details on the exam.

I'm having trouble in Herrick's class. I think he is a sweet guy that cares about his students, even though that can be 500+. The tests are killing me...I opted for a P/NP option. I always did way better on the practice exams/quizes than on the real one.

He is a great guy, but you will only get out of the class what you put in. He makes a lot of helpful resources available

This is my second class with Dr. Herrick, and he's a pretty decent prof. His lectures are relatively interesting, and his course website is super helpful. He's also very responsive via email. That said, his tests are difficult and intentionally tricky, and given how short they are, you are screwed if you miss even a few questions.

Comment:
As far as professors go Dr. Herrick isn't that bad. His lectures are boring and he doesn't speak loud enough but he tries very hard to adhear to all learning styles and he takes all student evaluation comments to heart. I haven't been to his office hours but I have seen him yell at individual student during lecture (one guy tried to leave early).

So adorable and fun to watch. Didn't win a magnet though. If you're not getting the homework make it into an office hour... he will give you very helpful demonstrations that show how to do it. I didn't think he was condescending at all. Probably questioning to help you through the student finding how to reason to the answer.

Dave Herrick is a decent professor, but the curriculum for teaching 500 students at once is terrible. If you have trouble accessing any of the information online, you are hosed. Take honors general chemistry instead. It will save you the headache and replace it with a new one caused by a greater challenge. If you do take Dave's class, SIT IN FRONT!

he is not a good teacher.he seems great at first, but you will soon realize that he is boring to listen to which makes chem really hard to learn.also,a big thing is that what he does in class in not like the homework at all.you will have to sit in super chem for hours to do it.he is a nice guy,but idk if he is one-on-one iv'e never gone it to talk

Dr. Herrick is a professor that has an adorable charm behind him. The class isn;t overly difficult, and the practice tests and quizzes are almost identical to the actual tests. I recommend Herrick fully as a gen chem teacher, you will find yourself actually entertained (on some days)

Dr. Herrick is a great teacher. He mixes in jokes with the class, goes slow enough for people to take notes, and is very fair on homework/quizzes and exams.

seems nice during lectures, but is actually pretty rude in person. if you go to his help sessions he will talk down to you if you ask for help. the class isn't hard, but he'll put everything he's covered on quizzes/exams even if he says that it will be on the next exam/quiz. not very accommodating and also slightly suspicious of students..

If you think he doesn't teach what webassign gives you then you are wrong. I have nearly 100% and I did not buy or even look at the textbook. I slept through his class everyday, but if you go to one of his help sessions he GIVES you the answers to the homework. If you aren't getting an A in this class, you should drop out, college isn't your thing
