Comment:
APSC 381 and 480 have extremely biased and unfair marking. Prof Strong has a cookie cutter way he expects you to do things and if you deviate at all, you will be penalized. The lectures are also often legitimately being lectured at. Do not take these courses.

Consistently talks about himself and his black and decker days. He also shows up late to classes, despite his lecturing on punctuality.

Strong taught me more about what it means and how to be an engineer than all the other profs combined. His dedication to us, 480, and engineering education as a whole is just amazing, I feel like I have to work that much harder just to not disappoint him and all the projects he has managed to bring in!

Strong has far more practical experience than any other professor I have had. He puts in an incredible amount of time to the course and it truly shows in the quality of projects available. I learned far more about actual engineering by completing my project in his course than in all my other course combined

Comment:
David Strong has done a lot to add a lot of design engineering curriculum at Queen's. Highly recommend 1st years look into taking his upper year design courses, 381 is a prereq for 480 and gives you an understanding of design techniques and gives you tech writing experience. 480 gives you a proper industrial client with a real project, worth it.

Strong has more practical industry experience than any prof I've had before. Some of what you do in his classes might seem annoying, but it is designed to help you out in the real world. He's a friendly, approachable guy, too. Lectures can be a bit dry at times though.

this class could be so great if it had structure, helpful TA's (although im sure some are) and a prof who said something more than "read chapter 14"
