Comment:

I'd have given her a 0 if it had been possible. She certainly knows the material, she has a difficult time transferring the knowledge to the student. Twelve discussion boards was a common week for this class. Her grades appear rather arbitrary as she does not give any feedback. Supposed to be gender in children's lit, but actually about race.

Let me start off with she is an extremely educated woman who is well spoken. That's it, that is all I can say good about her and this class. I took this class because I thought it would be interesting to learn more about women in the media. I was wrong! This class, I feel, promotes negativity and extreme feminism. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

15 books, buy cheap on amazon. Discussion board was good, and she participated. Tests were essay questions, had a week to do, "mini-papers." Requires group project, even though this class was online. Very frustrating. Would not take her class again.

Whenever a student in class shares their opinion, she just restates it the way somebody does when they don't understand anything your saying. For instance, "I feel like the author was saying that dogs are usually blue." Dr. H - "So you are saying that dogs are blue, according to the author" Over and over again...

She grades on a completely unrealistic level. She wants the students to write exactly as she would. She also expects you to write as if you are talking to an idiot by explaining the most minute comments. I strongly encourage people to avoid her classes.

The set-up of the class was great, and the discussions were interesting every time, without fail. She has some time management issues, and she's almost impossible to read; can be a difficult grader, but it's worth it! She's not nearly as opinionated as people have made her out to be; she's very respectful if you are as well.

Comment:

Dawn should be a great teacher because she's very intelligent, but she has bad time management. We're always behind on disussing readings because she lets kids exchange opinions for longer than is necessary. It also seems like she really dislikes anyone who isn't a radical feminist, so prepare to be offended if you're not a bra-burning radical.

very awkward and bland. don't expect any helpful responses to your emails. she does nothing to reign in discussions derailed by opinionated students. it's a shame, really, because it's clear she knows what she's talking about. very relatable, and her classes are definitely interesting, but she's just not a good professor.

Your grade depends on if your your opinions match with hers are and how you use them in the writings that are the exams. She is totally UNFAIR and inconsistent with the way she grades. Dr. Heinecken is a knowledgable teacher but she spends too much time on the same issues and does not explore the full potential of a women's studies class. I had her twice for two different classes and she taught almost the exact same things.

All WM classes are super tough; so regardless of your gender you will work your buns off. Dr.H.is very fair to all who attend classes and ask for her help;will bend over backwards.So if you are a goof off stay away. Too many readings not covered in class.

Very feminist and only sees the world through a womans eyes. Discriminates against males in her class. Very un classy and a pain to take. I suggest to stay away as far as possibly. Espcially if your male.
