Professor Hinck is very kind and passionate. He cares about his students and seeks alternative learning experiences for his classes. He took our section of COM 267L to a prison each week where we learned to debate with prisoners as partners. There are tough quizzes each week based on the textbook. If you prepare heavily you will be fine.

He is an awful teacher. He is too passionate about the subject to slow down and teach. He does not explain anything and forced my class to travel over an hour to a prison and debate with prisoners about global warming?? The book that goes along with this class is an actual joke, I would read and retain no information. The only class I got a B in

I took his COM352 class for my COM credit for the IPR major. It's a bit of a difficult class if you know nothing about rhetoric. It was difficult for me, so I had to do a lot of extra reading. He's very knowledgeable about the subject and he's super friendly and helpful. He also brought us snacks to class alot! :)

Great class, 100% take this online it's a lot easier. But you seriously seriously need the book for the final paper. I didn't buy it until a week before but it's needed. Also, you have to put actual effort into the discussion boards or you won't do well. They're graded on a 50 point scale. Have to try but it's not a bad class

Ed is a funny guy, he brought us snacks since class was around lunch time. All you have to do is make time to get a 100 on the debates. I didn't do so hot on the quizzes, but thats just bc i didnt read. If you read the book youll do fine.

This professor was slow in grading but when he did, his grades were ambiguous at best. The grades he gave seemed inconsistent and without clear definition. I had him for an online class, and he was very hard to read. I could never understand what he was looking for, as his feedback didn't match up with my grades. Very frustrating to take his class.

Debate is not my thing, but Dr. Hinck was very available to me throughout the entire semester when I needed to see him in his office. He is very passionate, knows his stuff, knows you on a personal level, and is pretty funny. I enjoyed his class and I would definitely take him again hands down!

He was a very nice dude and awesome to get to know, only down fall is that when we started running out of time we had to teach ourselves outside of class.

There were 5 tests in this class including the final. Lowest grade was dropped. The tests are straight from the chapters in the book and most likely in order. His lectures are recaps of the chapters. Go to review days because he usually says what is on the exam!

Took this class online and Ed provided great feedback on assignments, but it was usually very delayed. He also expects a lot for writing assignments. I followed the rubrics to a T and he would not give you 100% because you did not go above and beyond the rubric, which did not make a lot of sense, in my opinion. Overall, not a hard class.

You must have the book, attending the class is a not required but recommended. Ed, is great. He wants you to love the subject material as much as he does. He urges you to reflect the com. research theories in your work and within that build an conceptual understanding of the material. Ed was a particularly influential professor to me, he cares!

GO TO CLASS! I simply cannot stress this enough. Ed is a fantastic professor and I learned a lot in the intro to debate class. Unfortunately Ed subtracts 17 points per absence. Being an easy class I had a steady B at the end of the semester. However due to Ed's ridiculous attendence policy he lowered that to a D+. Stupid.

Ed is one of the most entertaining professors you'll ever meet. Dry humor. Debate grades are very easy. I was less than half-a-dozen points (on a 1000 scale) from an A, but it was my own fault. Make sure you read the textbook for quizzes, and spend time reading the example outlines for your propositions. The class is cake if you try.

Intro to Debate is a hard class with a big pay off. Hinck is a good guy and a good professor if you like to figure out things on your own. He won't baby you, he makes you figure things out for yourself.

short on the amount of feedback regarding scores. I Did not receive and A due to 10 points. (out of 1025) my scores miraculously fell after one particular week.previous to this week I had received comments such as excellent comments and contributions etc. Apparently freedom of speech is not without its costs in this forum. The class was worthless

This class was sweet. Didn't know how much interest I would have in debate. But the first few weeks all you do is listen to him lecture and write about 4 papers then the second half is strictly debating. You only do two and your only grade is if you talk the whole 7 minutes. Pretty easy to get an A.

Very good class. Learned a lot about advanced COM theory from Dr. Hinck. This guy knows his stuff, so don't try to bs him (although grad students shouldn't be doing that anyway). You'll learn a lot but expect to work for it.
