Had to buy 7 books to read throughout the semester. No tests, 3 papers 30% each, participationattendance counts as 10% of your grade. Rambles a lot, not very clear about what he wants in the papers. More of a writing class than a philosophy class. I really didn't like him much at all. Got A's on the 1st two papers, still waiting on the 3rd.

Existentialism: 1. There are no exams, only papers. (HE IS A RIDICULOUSLY TOUGH GRADER. Noticeably higher scores when TAs are grading.) 2. LOONNNGGG lectures. Zero class participation. 3. RAMBLER!!! Lectures simply consists of one unsupported claim to another. (Gets condescending if you disagree with his points.) 4. MANY BOOKS TO READ!!!

I enjoyed taking this class, it was pretty interactive and he is very helpful, hes a tough grader on the papers but he lets you write them and he gives a study guide for every exam so you can most definitely get an A if you put in a little effort,I barely went to class or did anything but I still got a B+

Professor Mendieta is dedicated, enthusiastic, and helpful to say the least. This is my second 300 level class with him, and I do not have a single bad comment. He provides a study guide with all of the vocabulary and essay questions that will appear on the exam a week prior. Puts a lot of effort into his class and expects the same in return.

Awful professor. Does not use textbook definitions, instead uses his personal convoluted ones. Is not clear about what is desired on exams/essays until after the fact (offered re-writes for my classes essays). Lectures are useless aside of the lecture notes he posts after class. Expect to be teaching self out of textbook. Very condescending tone.

The lecture was interesting. The exams are not easy. However, if you study the review sheets, you will be fine. The TA notes are helpful as well. The essay is 12 pages, and required an abstract, but a fair grader.

Not a bad lecturer, he's good in class and is actually very interesting sometimes. The problem is his test, It's the only upper division PHI class i've ever taken with an in class final and midterm. both of which are overly complex and difficult. I don't recommend him

He is a really great engergetic professor. He is funny and a really nice guy. BUT this class is not an easy A. The tests are long and a lot of material is covered on it. Final is cumulative. Its an alright class if youre into philosophy not an easy A though

Mendieta is an excellent professor and a very approachable person. He is very helpful during office hours and usually responds to emails. He cares about his students and presents the material clearly. Although, be advised that he uses "advance" philosophical language and terms that might lose you if you are not a phi major. OK TA notes. Fair exams.

Never went to class and am set for an A. Had to have my friends sign me in although you could just go in at the end. He does expect a lot of you but he puts up very helpful TA notes and powerpoints and along with the extra-credit(DO THESE) the class is a manageable A.

Prof expects you to know everything in notes and books. Everything is on Blackboard, but there is just too much to know. Tests are very long, but there is extra credit. I personally did not like him though because he expects too much from a class of mostly freshmen.

Do not take for a DEC! I had more work for this class than I did for my 300 level psych class. Material is somewhat easy to understand, its just that there is soooo much to know! Exams are long (3 essays plus vocab and text "I.D.") On the other hand, he is a fair grader and gives a generous curve at the end. Also, he uses clickers.. So show up

Way too much work for a 100 level DEC class. He gives a ton of information and expects you to read the textbooks. Tests are long with 3 essays and lots of information to memorize. Uses clickers to take attendance and participation grade. He's a nice guy but would avoid because of the work and the clickers.

I didn't go to any of the classes and still got an A. I didn't read any of the books. JUST STUDY THE LECTURE NOTES AND REVIEW SHEET. EVERYTHING IS ON THE REVIEW SHEET! His tests are extremely long but if I can get an A, so can you.

Awesome professor. Expects the best out of his students. Sometimes it is hard to understand him, but when you get used to him you will know that he knows what he is talking about. Very passionate about philosophy. Exams are a bit difficult, but he does give a lot of extra credit, which will really boost your grade!

This guy knows his stuff very well. He demands a lot but does plenty to make sure we succeed, e.g. uses powerpoint slides, has the TAs post lecture notes (2 sets per class), and gives us a review sheet before the exam. The exams are very long (lots of writing) but not too difficult if you study well

As dec's go not too bad. Didn't attend a single lecture, and aced the class. He posts very solid notes and that's all you need to write essays. Without the extra credits it would be tougher to get an A, but with the four he gives out your grade can get bumped 5-10 points.

Tests were way more difficult than I expected, but manageable. I missed maybe five or six classes and only read one of the assigned books, but I read the lecture notes posted on Blackboard & did the review sheets and wound up with an A in the class. It's not as hard as some people make it out to be if you actually study for the 3 tests.
