Prof. K. is one of the most interesting English Profs I had. English classes were tough for me because of a language barrier, but Prof. K. did her job well, and I went from being a C student to an A student. Because of her I ended up majoring in English Literature and taking all of the classes she taught. Read, ask questions, participate and get A

Class participation is a MUST. There's 1 midterm and 1 final and they're both in-class essays. She gives you 3 or 4 questions in advance and she'll pick 2 of them to be on the exam. She's very strict with grammar as every English professor should be. Everyone will have to speak in front of the class at least once

Good professor to take, a lot of reading and class participation is a must. However readings can be skimmed. Absences were not an issue, i had at least six and still got an A. Professor Kauvar is an easy grader if you follow instructions and is not strict with your writing topics for in class essays (no out of class essays are a plus)

Kauvar used NO books from the class description. Women in Literature should be about women's rights, love, work, voting, orgasm. Lady Chatterly's lover, Vindication on rights of women. Kauvar's class is a bad book club not a lecture. Lets stupid people dominate discussion. Cannot justify the grade she gives. No formal essays, only in class ones.

If you like to complain about readings you better change your major/minor. She is a great Professor, and loves what she does. Wonderful person. Exams are easy. Readings and class discussions are wonderful. Good Luck

At this level one should avoid to complain about readings. We read like 10 novels 5 before the midterm and 5 afterwards. Most of them were very interesting. She follows a pattern and assign readings accordingly. You have 1 panel presentation & 1 or 2 quiz. Read, & participate in thought provoking discussions & yes write carefully.

Professor Kauvar is a nice person. She is strict and the reading is a must! there is a lot of reading (20-36 pages). Tests are fair but she kills you on the grammar and it lowers your grade. you have panel presentations and 2 tests. memorize foot notes for tests and remember all highlights of each story!!! PARTICIPATE IS A MUST!

If you are not great with grammar avoid her! there is one midterm, one final and, one presentation thats it. the final and midterm have short essays and your grade is heavily based on grammar. no homework no quizzes, Reading is a must! she is not great with responding to emails. other than that i loved the stories that we read.

Best professor at Baruch College. She has the ability to make a good writer great and a great writer in to an extraordinary writer. The books I read in her class were diamonds in the rough. She has the great ability to make someone want to become a better reader and writer. Highly recommended for someone who loves literature.

chose an excellent selection of novels and books 2 include in her syllabus, wants EVERYONE in class to participate, she runs discussion-based classes, likes to play devil's advocate 2 encourage u 2 think differently, uses panel discussions and in-class writing assignments, if u don't say anything in ENG classes take someone else

In class essays only which is weird but you get used to it, I can see where students think she has favorites but its not that bad it you aim to be one of them. Need to participate and discuss alot. Study the readings and really get an understanding of them before taking quizzes and essays. Not bad at all, take her if you can.

She has her favorites, yes, but who wouldn't if half the class sits there blank-faced and only a few students participate (meaningfully). As for grading our grammar, we are taking an English class to improve our writing skills, and grammar is a very important one. She is opinionated, but hears out other arguments. Very good, take her if you can :)

the only complaint I have is that there is way too much class participation. She hasn't written anything on the board or taught. i dont know what to tell ppl who complain she grades grammar. this is an english class--thats like taking a math class and complaining they take off points for wrong calculations...

This professor is the worst i had at Baruch College. Really, never take her. She has her favorites, you have to kiss ass and participate in class every single time. If you don't participate she takes off 20% of your grade.In-class essays, grading of your grammar.

Don't ever think about taking this class with THIS professor. Although she is very intellegent, she is not helpfull at all, has her favorites and SHE is extremely tough grader!!! I had A's in my previous English classes but I expect no more than a C in this one. Nothing personal but don't ruin your GPA purpously!

Comment:
The professor is very taugh. There are no tests, she gives in class essays and she grades grammer as well which is insane. The only reason I got a C, because of my grammer and English is my third language and she does not cares, she demands the grammer to be PERFECT. The final is also an in class essay. If you have a choice take someone easier.

Awful. Unfriendly, gives little prep for exams and no matter how much work you do its never enough and never good enough. Not too great at clarifying important points, too busy asking class what they think instead of telling us information. Wished id checked this site before i registered for her class.

Too many books, like a drive-by reading. You rush through book after book every week with only 1 or two classes to analyze the entire thing and even then she doesn't really do a good job of fully answering questions. Better structured classes would make her a more effetive professor.
