This class is beyond boring. She's a nice lady and very passionate but yet every class felt like I was pulling teeth. She only takes attendance on the breakout session days. 2 projects, take home midterm and final. Don't buy the play's they're all online. Just make sure you read them for the midterm/final.

Emily is amazing. She gives you all the interpretation you need of the plays. You can either print the plays or buy them (which are not expensive). Midterm is a short and easy essay. I rarely go to class and still have a good grade. She's interesting and actually makes an effort to know your name. I recommend this class for a GPA booster.

pretty good class. so much interpretation gets annoying. you don't have to get the versions of the book she assigns bc they're all the same. she grades your writing exercises hard and grades you on attendance. no final, just a group presentation which is pretty straightforward. she gets kind of boring but she is still nice.

interesting class if you like shakespeare, but if you ever forgot why you stopped taking english classes, this will remind you -- there is a lot of emphasis on interpretation and cleaving into texts that you haven't cared about since high school.

SHE IS FANTASTIC! Charismatic, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable about Shakespeare. She made me see R&J in a whole new way. I loved her classes and never missed a single one. Do the readings!

AB from Yale and MA and Phd from Harvard. This lady is very intelligent and knows her subject matter. Go to office hours. Ask questions. Anything you say, even if it doesn't make any sense, she'll turn it around and make it seem like a credible literary theory by backing it up with lines from Shakespeare's text. That's how good she is. Recommended!

This woman is amazing! She really wants you to do well and pushes her students to do. Many find Shakespeare to be boring or difficult, but Bartels honestly makes this class exciting. She is so sassy and gives her students many opportunities to improve. I think there were 2 papers, 1 midterm and an optional final. Amazing, take her!

Bartels is awesome! Her lectures are very intense and interesting - she really draws you in. Class is always entertaining. The paper was annoying, but if you make a lot of changes from the first version to the second you will definitely get a better grade. Also, our final was optional. Take this professor - she's super insightful and interested.

One of the best prof's at RU. You'll have to really get into the subject to do well, but she makes it easy to care about the material. She's funny and engaging. Very dedicated. Highly recommended!

I was in a very large Shakespeare seminar. I went to maybe 4 or 5 classes. At the end of the class, go up to her and ask her a question. It doesn't matter what. Then, at the end of the semester, if you got a low grade, you can go to her office and ask to write an extra credit paper. If she remembers who you are from class, she'll hook you up!
