Not an engaging lecturer/presenter. Material is terribly dry. Oftentimes he loses his entire audience to their phones. Attendance is nearly 1/4 of total grade. He posts incomplete notes and completes them in class. If you don't get these notes completed then you won't know how to do the homework

Lecture slides & pictures in the course packet, and unless you can draw really fast AND take notes [notes are a must] it's recommended that you get it. Not too much physics/math/chem/sci, lots of different cultures and areas covered. Very knowledgeable & excited about teaching and traveling to places to investigate the histories.

Horrible teacher! He is very knowledgable on the subject, but he doesn't communicate this in his teaching. Class becomes very difficult because he asked questions that seem obvious to him even though he does not go over them in class. If you have him for Eng 181 or 183 he is extremely easy though.

great guy he always opens with hilarious engineering jokes to lighten the mood. He actually took the time to get to know students too and still says hi when I am waiting for other classes. It is hard to find a professor who actually cares about the kids anymore. class was bogus and simple but he at least made it fun

He may be a good prof for entry level eng classes, but this class one one of the worst classes I have ever experienced. This class would have been easy and maybe even interesting with someone competent teaching it, but his style and methods of teaching do not allow learning to take place.

Tan was a great professor, the horrible but kinda fun in their own way jokes were a nice touch to class. The class isn't too bad and the work load isn't extreme except for the labs, but theres no way around those. Great professor!

I had the pleasure of having Fabian Tan teach me 2 quarters in a row. Teaching style takes getting used to- seems extremely boring at first. Once you get used to how he teaches you will realize he is your best professor. Classes were tough but that is because of the ENG committee, not Dr. Tan. Quite a character as well.
