Very problematic teacher. Called me a pet name, which make going to class uncomfortable, and I consistently received low grades despite earning great grades from other history teachers at BC. I finally compared tests with my fellow students and learned that he gave them better grades FOR THE SAME ANSWERS!! TERRIBLE teacher, and not helpful at all.

Extremely subjective grader. Doesn't understand the difference between summarizing an historical event and explaining the significance of an event. Only presents his own historical interpretations and omits commonly accepted theories in his lectures.

I wouldn't say that Graham is a heartless and ruthless grader. He will just go through your work with a not just a fine pick and comb, but with a needle and tweezers as well. He does lack the ability to connect with his students, which I understand is a fairly modern way of teaching so I can't blame em for being so absent minded and cold at times.

TIME CONSUMING. Weekly quizzes got progressively more difficult. mid term and final is 40 sig./definitions (ugh), & essay questions. Research paper to do too, and you read about 70 pages a week. Unless the content passionately interests you those 70 pages feels forever. too much work for an elective, pick something else. Haslam was pretty friendly

I absolutely hated this class. I am not one to struggle but in this class I did. I went in for help and he said, and I quote, "I'm here to teach, not help." He's really picky about what matters and what doesn't in the final paper. I do not reccomend him AT ALL.

Online class - lots of work. Very specific about requirements although somewhat sloppy himself when posting to the homepage. He accepts no excuses but excuses himself rather easily. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the online class.

He was an adorable old man, but his class was HARD! I was so stressed about that class, and I got a B+. His grading system is that 95-100 is an A, 90-95 = A-, 85-90 = B+, 80-85 = B, and so on. He was very hard to hear, even at the front of the class, and he really knows his stuff, so BSing is out of the question. We had fairly easy weekly quizzes.

Online unresponsive and forgets to post things even when he says they are there. The feedback on the Mid-Term essays was incomprehensible. Would avoid any future classes with him. Also seems very condensing to students when they do ask a question.

Hard teacher, knows his stuff but grades/teaches his opinions. He teaches history like he was there. Very boring lectures, hardest class I have taken. Tons of outside reading and tests are very difficult.

Haslam was a sweet old man but he had very boring lectures. He's very strict on the attendance. You have weekly quizes on about 80 pages of reading with 10 questions. As long as you can do the reading and remember the facts and times, you'll do fine.

Extremely knowledgeable and quite helpful. Weekly quizzes are easy so long as you read the book or pay attention during lectures. Study for the mid-term and final tests and they aren't too bad (if you do poorly on the mid-term he'll combine the percentage of the final grade into the percentage for the final). Only one term paper, 5-8 pages

He is a nice teacher but very strict. You are only allowed to miss 3 days before your grade drops. The course work isn't very hard but there is a quiz every week. He gives tutorials for the quizzes and tests.

His class isnt that hard as long as you read the text and the documents and do the tutorials youll be fine for the quizzes. Theres only one 5 page essay that you have to write the whole quarter so its not that bad.

The class was very rigorous, mostly lectures with a weekly multiple choice quiz. Haslam is very knowledgable concerning US History (funny: he's British), and cares more about understanding of historical themes and events than specific dates and bland memorization. He takes his classes very seriously. Not for the timid or uninterested.

This teacher is not for people that lack intilect. One of the best history teachers i have ever had he knows a ton about what he is talking about and as long as you pay attention you will do okay. Most of the complaints i have read are just because people are lazy as hell and dont want to do anything who said college would be easy?

Unless you sit in the very first row, you will not hear a word he says. His voice randomly gets soft so you may catch a few words but not much. Our grade is based off of tests from our readings, a midterm, and a final paper. His lectures almost never follow along with the text of the book, so all you have to do is read the book and pass tests.

Lectures are incomprehensible.. always about the sex lives of Roman emperors and disgusting details that could be left out. The work load for this test is crazy considering the material is all arbitrary, we don't REALLY know that any of what we know about Rome is true, so why are exact dates so crucial? Class was unbelievable.

Note: before this class I had taken 5 qrts at BCC full time and was part of phi theta kappa society. I'm a hard working student. Haslam is unbelievable, he mis-spells important latin words on the white board you can google what he says, half of it is not accurate history. I got a C- in this class after getting B's on the test, B on the paper.
