To be honest, if you have a good TA in this class, you will have a good grade for sure. This class is difficult for me even though I am a Chinese student.

Professor Man-Cheong was a very good professor. She outlined what she wanted in her paper guidelines very clearly. She has you get together into groups and has you discuss the readings in class. The tests were not worth as much of the grade which was based more on the papers and participation which really helps you learn and enjoy the material.

I feel if there was less criticizing of paper topics and more suggestions on how to fix a problem it would be perceived in a more positive way. There was never any clear idea on how to do her paper. I feel that students should start paper early so they don't have to "redo" or "Restart" paper. Please avoid taking her classes.

The worst thing is that she did not follow her criteria of grading. If the minimum pages are 5, someone writes 10 pages can still get an A. She uses her self-knowledge and subjective impression to judge your paper. I went to Writing Center twice and they told me my paper was fine. But she thought I was misunderstanding the topic and gave me C

A lot of readings and discussion in class and for homework. Tough grader, gives out mostly Bs and Cs. She takes attendants every class and her lecture is VERY boring. Went to her offie hour but not helpful. Almost made me think she hated me. She responds email very slow and you dont get response you want. DO NOT TAKE CLASSES WITH HER!

Tons and tons of reading. Since this was a combined ungradgraduate class, she treated it like a graduate class. If you don't do the reading, don't even bother coming to class. If you do the required work, she's an easy grader.

You will have to read. She knows her stuff but her powerpoints aren't good. Get ready to listen and take notes. She can be very immature when you try to email her for help or clarification. 3 papers for take home final and 1 midterm paper. 10 identification words for a quiz. God forbid you make ask for help or make a mistake.

She's not so bad. She assigns two essays and 4 or 5 small quizzes. The quizzes were difficult but didn't count much. The mid term and the final were really easy if you study all the slides. I did most of the readings and the books weren't that terrible but most of the information on tests involved the lecture material. Make sure to participate

What a nightmare. Rude, unhelpful, inconsistent lectures and grading, no textbook but she assigns 2 useless books that she does not even argue for! Unless you have a strong background in Chinese history, I would not take this class. She is also unresponsive and makes the poor TA do all of her dirty work. Rude! I'd never take a class with her again.

This class is a bit hard for non history majors because the Essays are a bit hard to write unless you understand her style and needs. The professor is a lenient grader but the TA may not be. She does discussions on blackboard for points (look at what everyone else wrote for help). Her tests are multiple choice but it may also be essays.

HIS 219 is an interesting and fairly easy class to take. Professor Cheong is helpful and guides us very well. Midterms & Finals were easy. Quizzes were hard but only counted for 5 percent of the grade.

when you first come into class you'll be like "oh yes someone that's easy" then you all of a sudden hear that she's speaking with a british voice. WOW lol now the fun begins. her quizes were not that hard your great has to be better than others. the term paper has to be good to her standards to get an "A" and her exams really comes from the quizes.

Very interesting class. The presentation of the material was very confusing at the beginning of the semester because she hopped from dynasty to dynasty. The quizzes were very tricky as she would ask questions about minute pieces of information from text you read for homework that didn't seem important to you so you didn't know what to study.

Lot of reading in this class. Quizzes are very tricky. Exams are very easy. Very difficult to get an A in this class. I tried my hardest and ended up with B+ Quiz grades really brought down my grade because her quizzes are extremely tricky.I liked her lectures though, very interesting. She's unprepared and lazy though.

Her quizes are very tricky, even though she said it was easy. She qave one quiz each week. She changes grading every semster. My friend told me that last year her quizes were only worth 10% but this semster was 25%. moreover she gave a BIG extra credit project last semster but this year she gave us none.Interesting topic (China) but poor professor!

It's very difficult to fail this class, and even harder to get an A. She seems like a perfectly nice lady, but I consistently felt like she didn't care about the students or the quality of her lectures. A very absent-minded and lazy teacher, in my opinion. Interesting material, but poorly taught.
