This class was one of my favorite ANTH classes to take as Dr. Chard actually teaches you how to do ethnographic research. Little homework except the main capstone project due at the end of the semester. Really helpful class for those who are interested in doing qualitative research.

Some of the most moving and memorable lectures I've ever experienced!! Chard is an amazing Professor. She is highly intelligent and passionate about anthropology. She wants her students to think critically about material not just memorize and regurgitate content. She will make you work for your grade but this is University so what did you expect?

I would not recommend taking her classes or being an anthropology major, because it was often unclear what she wanted from assignments. She has a lot of strict requirements you don't see from other professors, and rarely updates grades.

Prof. Chard ending up being one of my favorite instructors. You get A LOT of information to learn in class but it's explained very clearly and she's always willing to help if you need it. Grading is very fair and prompt. As long as you take notes and study you'll do fine!

STUDENTS BEWARE!!!! Chard is not clear about her expectations for this class. She does not return grades on time! When I took her class, the only grade received during the semester was for the midterm. She's very bad at providing constructive criticism, and does not return work on time. Don't take this class unless you have to.

very nice, interested woman. she is definitely interested in the subject and tries to get everyone to participate and enjoy it as well. written assignments are graded easily, the tests are a bit more challenging. she can tell when students are completely out of it and decides to end class early. easy to persuade for extra credit (though not much)

Professor Chard is a pretty good teacher. Every class period, she makes it clear that she has a passion for Anthropology, which makes for an interesting course to take. It can be a bit difficult sometimes taking notes; her penmanship isn't exactly the best, and she often writes samples of what she is actually saying. Overall good professor though.

Prof. Chard is a fantastic instructor and I reccommend her to anyone. Enthusiastic, involved, Interesting, and one of the sweetest professors on campus. I had her for 211 and 311 last semester and loved both classes, and I'm not a SOC/ANTH major. You will learn so much in her classes, all you have to do is a little reading. Projects are easy too.

Highly recommended. Interesting class discussions, fair grading. Lots of reading was assigned (textbook + 3 150-250page anthropological studies) but all the main points are discussed in class. Notes are provided on blackboard but attendance is usually taken so don't skip class.

Interesting class, interesting teacher. Lectures were always interesting, books were interesting enough and she listened when you told her if they were boring. 2 exams, 1 fieldwork paper, 5 short response papers to readings. Easy to get an A if you try just a little. Attend class cause lectures will be important. Exceptional prof.
