Tough class, SO MUCH MEMORIZATION OF EVERYTHING! Prepare to read the book multiple times and spend a lot of hours on memorization. There's a lot covered and EVERY detail counts especially on tests! Prepare for weekly quizzes and homeworks too

Comment:

Dr. Thomson clearly has an enthusiasm for her subject which is visible during lectures. She is a New Yorker, which makes her seem brusque and unapproachable, but she makes an effort to be available to students so don't be shy with her. My main issue is her exams do not always follow her study guides, so be sure to know EVERYTHING from lecture.

This class is HARD. And while I really enjoy her lectures, I have to say she does things to make it harder. She will give a list of minerals you must be able to identify, and then give you minerals NOT on that list to identify. Trickery is not helpful in a subject that is already very difficult. Show up to class.

Professor Thompson was also my adviser for my senior project and work study. She covers tough material in an easy to understand way. Great teacher who really cares about her students!

I love Dr. Thomson. She's the most interesting teacher I've had so far. I've taken the entire earth materials series with her, it was great. She loves what she teaches, is very helpful, & loves it when we make our discoveries. You'll have to work in her class, don't procrastinate & you'll do fine. I would take any other classes/trips she teaches.

You will need all the help you can get. She refused to answer questions in class, in lab, or in her office. She would not allow you to use tools in the classroom. You must bring your own. I left the dept. because of her. Awefull Awefull teacher! I took a minerals class from her.

This is a tough class but if you show up to class you will pass. Be willing to work and ask questions and you will be fine. DO NOT TEXT OR TALK IN HER CLASS...she hates people distracting her during lecture. She is helpful and a nice person though!

She obviously really loves what she is doing and really knows what she is talking about. Her tests can be difficult and her grading standards are fairly high but she is very good about getting her grading done quickly. She is usually fairly available outside of class. Overall a good experience.

Very difficult course material. Thompson teaches it fairly well. Like her as a prof she is fair. Can be moody at times. Involved in to many activities outside of Eastern which keeps her from being of much assistance outside of class

Dr. Thompson is a great teacher. Her test are not on the easy side but she's always available to help. i've never been interested in love but i actually enjoyed this class and i'm really glad i took it. Labs are mandatory but she doesnt grade harsh and is always available to help.

Thompson is a great teacher and you can tell she LOVES what she does. As for the class it is sooo BOARING!! maybe that is just because im not interested in Geology. She really wants you to succeed and stays to her word about due dates. The class isn't as easy as everyone says it is but its worth taking.

Professor Thompson is an excellent teacher! You can tell she is very passionate about her job which makes her a very enthusiastic teacher. It's easy to pay attention and learn in her class because she makes it interesting with her personality and sense of humor. I'd definitely recommend her! Dr. Thomson is interesting and funny. Go to class, take good notes and do the labs. Reading the textbook is wise. In Geology 120, the tests are multiple choice and very clear. Dr. Thomson is helpful, but you have to ask.

Very cool teacher. I took her in the fall of 05' and I can still remember stalagmites and stalagtites and the differences between them. Very easy if you just study off your notes. Great Professor!

Dr. Thompson really makes you learn and love Geology. She is an excellent teacher- definitely one of my favorites of all time. Her classes are hard but relavent and you learn much more than you realize- and it sticks.
