Had him for intro to ethics and it was very interesting to say the least. "Had" to read 6 books, with "tests" over all of them.I only had 4 pages of notes and there were only 3 tests, including the final. I got A's on the tests without reading the books. All you need to do is pay attention in class and have a brain. Great for an intro class.

Overall good. kindof pointless subject, he hardly ever makes his class go the whole time. half the lectures are either cancelled or shortened just because he doesn't feel like doing it either. he sums it all up very concisely, dont buy the books, just use sparknotes!

I have to agree with the other person who said he assigns 6 books and then does not discuss them AT ALL! In the whole 16 wks I have a whole 3 pgs worth of notes. The tests are a joke, absolutely not fair for someone in an intro class. I have gone to his superiors.

We met Jeff Dahmer's lawayer as a guest speaker and he discussed Moral Ethics. The six books were great books, all cheap chapter books less than 20 bucks each. The prince, kant, nagel, stuff like that. Staples in any philosophy library. This class is cool but you must show up every day in order to learn anything relevant.

This man is absolutely ridiculous. He assigns 6 books to read, then comes into class, not discussing his material, but telling stories about how he knows people in jail. we've had one test in 9 weeks, no homework, no papers, no chances to even get a good grade. he only gets along with the pot heads because they fantasize about the same bs he does.

I enjoy going to his class He seems like a smart man and has a sense of humor. Some classes though, I feel like I'm not really learning anything. We've watched movies and spent classes just talking. This is a nice class if you want to learn about things that you wont learn in a geography class. He's a nice man, and it's a nice class. the books suck

Comment:
One of the worst instructors I have had anywhere. Book choices were more than questionable; they were un-academic, unbalanced, and irrelevant: NOT theory of knowledge, but rather bogus pop psychology. Buchanan regularly misstates facts, makes up words, and spouts various ultracrepidarian nonsense. Entire course was basically a one-sided discussion of his own superiority. Take his class if you want to witness three hours a week of verbal masturbation.

I took him this summer and thought he is a good professor. The course was a lot of work for 5 weeks (had 6 books), but doable. He told a lot of stories that were interesting, but not sure how true they all were :) I thought he was clear with what he expected, and contrary to other reviews, he does give As if you do the work he asks of you.

He is a very knowledgeable man. He strays off the subject quite frequently that you don't know what to take notes on. He does not give A's, mostly B's. He does not seem like an approachable guy, very intimidating.

It's impossible to get an A... and i've taken two of his classes. I'm convinced he draws letters out of a hat, and then writes that letter on your exam.

His shock factor when explaining concepts really anchors in the knowledge. His classes are not for those with an easy stomach or sissies.

Interesting lectures, fun class to attend, but the fact I received a "0%" on a test because it was very hard gives me a slighty biased opinion.

Good stories. But....exams weren't graded with any comments. He says, "I figure you know what you did right or wrong." You can't figure out what areas need improving with this. Definitely bad for type A students (me).
