NURS310 was revised this semester and it seems to be more of a mess than it used to be. Lectures, PowerPoint slides and assigned textbook readings don't prepare even the smartest students for the exams. The lectures can feel like storytime rather than exam prep. Grades may have been lowest in this class compared to any other

Dr. Davenport will appear to be "too cool for school" as the last rater described her, but she is definitely not out to help students succeed. Especially, CERTAIN students. I will just leave that to your imagination. Read the book, do the lab book, and pray you get a good clinical instructor, who can give you the practical experience to learn.

the only time i read the book was for lab and i did fine on the test. If you take lab seriously then it will make the tests easy. A lot of lab is just like studying for the tests.

Shes pretty entertaining but like everyone else said, you HAVE to read the book. Attending class isnt important (as long as you read), but it isnt super painful either - she's interesting. Focus on LAB! You can really learn a lot there that is helpful for the tests if you don't just mess around the whole time.

Yes very lively lecturer but can also be very unprofessional/rough 2 students by embarrassing them in front of class if they say something stupid. She picks on people in the front row 2 do assessement on in front of whole class. Lectures do not cover what's on tests. Use book & wkbk. Prep for Val #4 from Day 1 & it will help prep 4 exams 2.

Comment:

Health Assessment was a very entertaining class. She is an enthusiastic speaker makes class lively and has a good presentation but she doesn;t really go over technique and breezes over the lecture. You will have to READ the book because you cant just go by lecture alone. Most of the questions are from the book-- focus on the ABNORMALS

Lively lecturer. Lecture does not cover entire book where exam questions come from so you have to read. Some blanks in her notes so you have to attend her lecture. She knows her stuff, but she wings her lectures on assessment techniques.

I disagree. She is not cold at all. She just has a rough personality... actually, I enjoy dealing with her one-on-one. Very intelligent and competent. One of the best professors I have every had.

You could go either way with her. If she is in a good mood, you will like her. But catch her on a bad day and look out. She is however one of the most intelligent people I know and has a way of lecturing that actually kept my attention. Be warned Med/Surg is one of the most intense courses in our program.

You get out what you put into this class. Read the powerpoints and as much of the text as you can stomach to prepare for tests. If you get a B, you're a genius. Start the hemo and analysis paper as soon as you can. Trust me. Davenport's a good help if you just go to her. She loves questions.
