Comment:
Mr Parker is not interested in how you think. Every day, he asks fill-in-the-blank style questions, often unrelated to the text. His goal: to 'decolonize' student's thinking, but only does so by picking on students for using ambiguous pronouns or saying things like 'Western' instead of 'colonizer'. Overall, Joe just wants to regulate your language

I really appreciate Joe's determination to teach on Indigenous peoples and theories. He was extremely accommodating for me throughout the entire class. Often I would miss class and he would be super available for me to check in. He is so open to what students want out of the course he often changed assignments based on feedback! Amazing professor.

Joe is definitely one of my favorite profs. I would take all of his classes if I had the time. The material is challenging in the best of ways, causing you to re-think the foundations on which you build your belief system. I look back at my papers from his classes & they are unlike any others I've written. So much to learn from him, brilliant!

Joe is probably my favorite Pitzer prof. The dry humor fools many into thinking he's a grouch, but he's actually a brilliant and hilarious individual. He helped me with bureaucracy that had nothing to do with him, just out of caring. He allows for creativity in class, but doesn't demand it, cause he would never make everyone do it the same :)

Very smart. He won't ever tell you how to think, or how to approach a topic, which is why some people don't like him, but it makes you understand the subject even better. Reading is mandatory. He wants you to really understand the information. I recommend taking him in a smaller class, so he can have a real conversation with you

I am taking Joe Parker's "Intro to Critical Theory" class and I absolutely LOVE it. I most always come out of there completely thrilled and inspired- it turns my way of thinking about the world upside down. The class is extremely discussion-based and he really makes an effort to get everyone involved. Readings are challenging but very worthwhile.

Joe is a great teacher in that he wont tell you how to think, he'll present you with the facts and make you form your own thoughts and opinions. I highly recommend him to people looking to think critically and who like a non-conventional style. One of the best courses ive taken at Pitzer.

Everybody seems to have a love-hate relationship with Joe Parker. Two of my closest friends hated his classes. I am in my seond Joe Parker class right now. He's brilliant, and his classes will really get to you (in a good way), if you let them. Take his class open-mindedly, and I promise, he'll make you see the world in a whole new way.

JOE is one of the only profs i have ever really learned from. He is incredibly knowledgable, admirable, adapting and insightful. If you engage in the coursework, this class will permanently effect and expand your world-view. He's not the most personable, or available, but persistent, passionate students do well. Oh joe parker...

i heart joe parker... man is wonderfully well read and articulate. interesting to listen to but a little out of this world... he's a big fan of random tangents and spontaneously calling on you when you are most zoned out... be sure to pay attention to the details, he's big on that

He is one of the worst profs I have ever had. He is unclear about what he wants in an assignment. And, then counts off for not doing what he wants. And, it is clear that he likes some students and not others.

Super smart, super nice. Will give you exceedingly big and difficult readings, but will help you as much as you need if you don't get it. Doing the readings, though, is essential because he won't oversteer a class.
