Comment:

Juan Galeano is incredibly insightful and caring towards his students. He is a wonderful man and I looked forward to being in his class everyday. He has a super rich background in many studies and leads wonderful lectures. He is also very willing to work with students' needs as well as help their grades as long as they showed up to class.

Comment:

Galeano is laid back while still being an effective teacher. He cares that you learn something in his class and do your best to improve in speaking Spanish than achieving perfection in the language and top grades. He also likes to share a lot of interesting stories and experiences while still being humble.

Galeano is a cool guy. The department makes professors speak spanish the whole class so for people who aren't good with spanish, it's kind of hard to keep up. I changed my grade to S/U because it was difficult. If you're somewhat decent at Spanish, this should be an easy B+

Dr. Galeano is by far one of my favorite professors of all time. He absolutely loves what he teaches and has extensive knowledge about it. His class does have a lot of readings and videos but they are absolutely worth it. I have had conversations in his class that I would have never had in any other setting. Definitely recommend taking

Comment:

Professor Galeano is an excellent teacher, who enjoys his job. He makes you feel as if you are involved in something extravagant. He is man who wishes to make your life easier not more difficult. His work is very reasonable and is not meant to stress you out. Instructions are clear in his course and the material is quite interesting. Take him!

I loved Dr. Galeano's class! He's very intelligent and kind and grades fairly. You will have a LOT of work in his class though; be prepared for lots of readings and movies. The discussions are really interesting, however, and I overall felt my Spanish improved in the best ways.

Dr. Galeano really cares about teaching his students not only about Latin American culture, but also about the Spanish language. If you attend class regularly and keep up with the movies and readings, youll do just fine. Hes funny and loves to talk about his adventures with students.

Dr. Galeano loves what he teaches and tries to instill that love and understanding in his students. As long as you go to class and do the readings you will get an A in the course. His grading criteria is a little unclear but if you do your best he grades accordingly.

Profesor Galeano is an inspirational professor, with his own book and documentary on the culture of the Amazon. You definitely learn about various cultures and philosophical topics while improving our Spanish proficiency. I would definitely recommend him as a professor, and the style of the class is a good change of pace from your normal classes.

Sr. Galeano is such a respected member of the academic community, and you will definitely learn a lot. He loves other cultures, is well- traveled, and shares his life experiences with the class. If you need structure, this may not be the best class for you but if you show up to class and participate you will get an easily get a B.

The required readings and movie showings were monotonous to get through. Dr. Galeano is clearly loves teaching. He is late every day and can be a tough grader on the oral presentations. The exams and quizzes are VERY easy if you read and watched the movies. Lots of vocab to learn but easy to get an A. Very passionate but disorganized teacher.

Galeano lectures well, but he travels a lot. Strict attendance policy (-5%) for someone who misses more class than his students and is always late. It's contradicting, but he seems like a nice person to the class, with a tendency to offend individual students. Class was informative enough. My conversation improved. His grading is very subjective.

This class was apart of the Iquitos, Peru study abroad program. I really loved this class because I learned all about the Amazonian culture before I went to Iquitos. I am not a native speaker (Spanish) and I had to work hard to get my reading and writing up to par but it was well worth it. Dr. Galeano was very helpful throughout my whole experience

Dr. Galeano was awesome! I honestly only loved this class as much as I did because of him. Read the assigned readings, and show that you're putting in the effort and you will get an A. He's all about the Amazon & Peru (did a lot of work there). Tests are extremely fair. Funny guy, keeps things interesting - would definitely recommend!

Dr. Galeano is a very engaging professor. He is knowledgeable about the cultures of the amazon basin and is a well respected poet in the amazonian and environmentalist communities. Dr. Galeano is a masterful storyteller who inspires his students to think from new perspectives. Although his class will take you some time in preparation, vale la pena.

Fantastic professor that truly cares about his students' learning! The course topics were insightful, valuable, and fun! With his knowledge and experience, he has so much to offer students, both at FSU and through his Study Abroad course in Peru.

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Galeano! Though his syllabus is daunting and the structure is not what most expect of an upper level Spanish class, you will thoroughly enjoy this class if you are at all interested in different cultures and their ideasways of life. He's a great person and truly desires for students to learn the spanish language

He's very interested in the Amazonian culture and loves to talk about his experiences there along with the readings and films. There are quizzes every day for the material but if you read them, you'll pass. Read, show up for class, and try to participate and you'll get an A. He taught me a lot about Hispanic culture with a unique perspective.

Dr. Galeano was a very interesting professor, he is so passionate about his work. He really helps you learn Spanish by describing abstract concepts and making you use your vocabulary. Super nice guy as well, I'm shocked someone said he was mean. Quizzes almost every class, but they aren't hard. An 'A' is very attainable.

Comment:

Dr. Galeano has a lot of experience with indigenous cultures and has traveled Amazonias rivers collecting narratives and learning a philosophy of life that is totally different to the way we think in the West. His classes are a trip through jungles, rivers, and mountains. Just do the readings, go to class and participate in the discussions.
