Comment:
Dr. Liu is a caring, lovely person. He provided helpful feedback on numerous writing assignments. However, his teaching style is lecture based, and in a graduate course, this structure is tedious and boring, especially because the information he provides is quite basic. He's generally not open to unorthodox readings. Great guy; not the best prof.

Very fair professor. Knows his stuff and expects you to pay attention to the details and not gloss over theory. Completely fair minded. Wants his students to do well. Sometimes difficult to understand, but you will get used to it after one class. Gives many quizzes, but tells you the basic idea of what to expect so you can prepare.

Dr. Liu is brilliant. He made European Literature very enjoyable, and I am proud to say that I was finally able to fulfill my ambition of reading Stendhal after taking his class. The literary works he chose were amazing, except Madame Bovary by Flaubert. But actually, the only reason why I did not like Flaubert is because I read him in high school

Intelligent, world weary, optimistic, skeptical, romantic, nihilistic, life-affirming, philosophical, theoretical, practical, imaginative, logical. Everything a lit prof should be and more. After taking numerous classes with Liu, I can honestly say that I emerged a better person. Great literature asks great questions but never gives easy answers

It's too bad that Liu and Elkins couldn't be the teachers for the entire English department because they seem to be the only two who know how to properly analyze a text. You will become a better textual analyzer just by taking Liu's class. Love Liu, he is an amazing English professor.

What I'm really trying to say... I had a great experience with this professor. He is approachable and cares about his students. Has a certain air of humility which is quite refreshing for a professor. Does not put students on the spot by randomly calling on them. Quite a gentleman.
