Retired now. Had a lot of experience in the music industry and tried to convey that experience to his students. A bit of a dry lecturer, and sometimes conveys ideas unclearly, but may go into better details if prompted by a student question.

Comment:

When I attended CSUC in the mid 90's, Keith was a great mentor. Being one of 3 females in the Recording Arts program at the time, he openly admitted that he was going to grade me a little harder than the guys because "women have better hearing", and I'm glad he did. I enjoyed his input and his teaching style.

Keith is definitely an experienced professional in the music industry but loves talking about himself a bit too much. Easy grade if you actually put in the effort. Participation matters- make sure you speak up in class. He loves it.

Weird sense of humor. He just reads off the powerpoint and tests directly from it but for some reason he still takes roll even though going to class really is not necessary to pass the tests. He just barely covers a lot of things and doesnt explain why anything is the way it is he just wants you to memorize it. LOTS of memorizing. LOTS

Keith is a super cool guy and passionate recording engineer, but he has a weird time getting across some ideas. Yknow when you know something so well, so you kinda think other people will just "get it," but in actuality it's a hard concept to neophytes? It's like that. Interesting content, but ask questions and for clarification, and you're golden.

Very awkward guy. Also pretty cocky. He seems more interested in proving he knows a lot than actually communicating his knowledge. Doesn't answer questions well (he just repeats himself), interrupts a lot. However he is a brilliant recording/mixing engineer, and if you ask good questions you'll gain a lot of insight from him.

Sep is a super knowledgable guy but hes not that great of a teacher. At least in 109 he basically read off the powerpoint and made you memorize the stuff. Weird sense of humor, and hes a total name dropper. I dont like that he takes attendance every single day and grades you on it. Not enjoyable.

At first, I noticed he loved complicating things. You can tell he knows what he's talking about. He's been around and has experience in the industry. However, he has trouble actually teaching.Now onto the good stuff, as the semester went on when we spoke ot mic placement, I started having more fun. Show up, ask questions, study and you'll be fine.

Prof Seppanen is an AWESOME teacher. If you have a passion for audio engineering he'll be your favorite professor. His lectures are very interesting. He's really fun and entertaining, especially hearing his experience while recording multiple famous musicians. Exams can be tough but if you study it'll be your favorite class.

Keith is awesome. He doesn't do the BS game, and he doesn't put up with students that don't know what they should've already learned. He gives those students an attitude, but still helps them. If you take him, and pay attention, he's the coolest. He knows his s***, and you'll learn a lot from him!
