He really knows his stuff and is well known. Only two exams (a midterm and a final) in a combo of essays and key identification terms. With the books and all the lectures, it is alot of material & hard to know what he is looking for. But a major plus are the review sessions held by the TA's. Go to the review sessions and you will do fine.

Two thirds of your grade will be based on an essay/short answer final that covers World War II to the Iraq War. Doesn't matter if you keep up all semester with the reading... you will still have to CRAM. Besides this, Wittner is a good guy and the class is what you'd expect from an American FP course.

Although Wittner may have a wiki page and be an intelligent guy, he isnt a very good teacher. He doesnt provide any lecture materials like an outline, ppt, or study guide. Just stands there are talks. When signing up for history classes I wondered why his was the only one still open.. now I know. Don't take this class.

Homework is just reading, which isn't too bad. No study guide at all for tests, which is troublesome due to his political proclivities, as it is difficult to predict what he might ask about. Defers students to the TAs, which is to be expected. Absolutely frightening that this man is the Graduate Director for the History Dept.

Great teacher, great class. All lecture, no slides, overheads, or gimmicks. A lot to be learned from this class, particularly for American history majors. Great class for anyone who wants to work towards social change in modern America.

I never missed a lecture because they were so informative and I looked forward to them. He knows his**** and he's not conceited about it. Take this class especially if you want to learn about history that has been ignored/paid little attention to. Very eye-opening. Did you know that we had a buncha socialist mayors back in the day? hell yeah.

Very boring lecturer, voice travels up and down like a roller coaster. Quest for euality was a bit more interesting than U.S. foreign policy. No songs sung in 312, thnakfully. This modern day version of Bob Ross puts more kids to sleep than mother goose. Mid term and final, books were a waste of money. Strange guy, but approachable.

This man is so brilliant. Also has a witty and dark sense of humor. Sometimes lectures can be painfully boring, but when he is really into class he lets some discussion happen and that's great. Just take lots of notes and study. Is it bad I think he's hot when we sing labor songs???

I loved Prof Wittner's class. He is very knowledgeable and I actually enjoyed doing projects and papers--he is very academic yet is open to students' interests--like I did a paper on the Beat poets, and he showed appreciation and interest in our work.
