she is super nice and makes it really fun to go to class. i definitely recommend her. the material is pretty easy and the grading is pretty fair, though she grades the essays a bit harder than they deserve. midterm and final grades are fair and she gives consideration to participation points.

Course was about European Revolutions in modern era. I'm not a history major, but Mally does a good job of tying events into a big picture in terms I can understand and throws in some humor at times. She provides all possible test questions ahead of time so no tricks. According to Mally, she's retiring in a couple years so take her when you can.

First history teacher/professor who has ever made it interesting for me. She gives out all the final/midterm questions ahead of time. lots of reading to do, but not necessary to get a good grade. attendance is necessary. History textbooks she chooses are actually interesting. Lively and enthusiastic about the subject!

great lecturer, very funny, well organized--you learn a lot. nothing she teaches is dry or boring--she brings together the big picture. she handles delicate subjects (stalinism, purges, communism) with inteligence and fairness. she is in no way opinionated or biased, but teaches you the facts and expects you to come up with your own conclusions.

Comment:
Soviet Russisan History Class. One of the best history classes I've taken at UCI. She's a great teacher who actually teaches history as it should be taught - not as a series of dull facts, but as the collective actions of flawed people who deserve effective interpretation. Thus, classtime is often dedicated to very lively discussion.

GREAT LECTURER! She follows her notes precisely so you aren't struggling to write and listen at the same time- but don't use that as an excuse to skip lecture. Go to her office hours, she is very helpful for humanities papers. Very nice person too!
