I've taken his class twice overall and he is an extremely caring and supportive teacher. He does grade extremely tough on your papers but he wants you to improve. his attendance policy is fair you're able to make up other classes if you can't attend your own block but other wise he honestly is really good. quizzes are also frequent but simple

Hes the best teacher Ive ever had hes super quirky and entertaining. I have ADHD and he breaks everything down and explains everything so thoroughly. His teaching style has really helped me. Hes a reasonable man is very easy to approach. 10/10 teacher

BEST LITERATURE TEACHER IVE EVER HAD! His classes are very entertaining and in the beginning, you have ALL your homework assignments on the syllabus so you can be ahead of the entire class if you want. Hes a tough grader but is very fair and will write notes on your paper to help you get better for the next paper. You get points if you dont skip

He's the greatest professor I've ever had. He is absolutely hilarious & he genuinely cares about his students. If you take his classparticipate! You won't be disappointed by his response; he's so enthusiastic about his work! He's a tough grader but he challenges you to become a better writer. Also has an awesome British accent:)I highly recommend!

Barely got by with a 70 even. I struggled with this class having barely ever structured papers beforehand but I worked hard and went from failing summaries to nearly A grade essays by the end. He's not easy if you're trying to scrape the credits by, but if you genuinely want to get as much as you can out of an English class he's the way to go!

Excellent professor. Professor Matthews cares for his students a lot. However, I would not recommend take his class if you take another hard class. Professor Matthews makes sure his students know the material with quizzes as regular credits. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN AND TO BE GOOD. Thank you professor Matthews. You inspire me.....

Mr. Matthews is a very funny guy. He gives you everything you need to know about the class on the syllabus on the first day. If you don't attend class, you will have no chance of passing. He is very engaged in class as he knows everyones names in class and will call on everyone to participate. He's a hard grader but an overall great teacher.

He is a tough grader! I barely passed the class and he was a bit confusing. He is a helpful professor and will discuss why you got the grade that you got. He wants you to become a better writer because he will give you extra credit for going to the writing center which I thought was very helpful. I would not take him again necessarily but he's okay

He is a good grader and definitely lets you know what to fix on your papers. Tons and tons of extra credit opportunities. TAKE NOTES FROM THE TEXTBOOKS! USE THE WRITING CENTER! It will help you and your grade. He counts it as extra credit. Follow the syllabus as well. It keeps you organized.

Professor Matthews is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes class fun & really wants his students to succeed. He puts a lot of time into helping you understand his assignments. Show up to every class & put your best effort into all of your work. Not an easy A, but you'll come out of this class a better english student. He's awesome!

Always helped me out, and i got to know the writing lab through him wich really helped. Hes go a strong brittish accent and really got into grafing papers and making corrections but didnt grade too harshly. Easy required english class

Matthews is a little crazy and takes a while to get used to, but once you get used to him, he'll become one of your favorite professors. I never dreaded going to his class even though I felt like a needed a nap after each class. He's a tough grader, but as long as you follow the guidelines and use the Writing Center you should be fine.

Great professor. He is very specific about what he wants (the syllabus tells you exactly what to do). He gets really into the material and discussions! His grading is VERY CLEAR and comments on papers are helpful. Your writing will improve. Gives extra credit if you use the writing center and answers emails promptly. I definitely recommend him!

Great Prof. You definitely feel legitimate learning British Lit from a British expatriate. I learned so much from his class! Not an "easy" class but manageable if you do the readings and take notes! Expect a quiz every class. Don't be late. Take advantage of the writing lab at least for the first paper. He does not like comma splices!

I had failed English 111 MISERABLY 3 times before earning a high 80's in Prof. Matthews class. He is an amazing teacher that is weird at first but motivates you to enjoy doing the class work while still being extremely helpful. Not a pushover, though, he is very critical but will still tell you EXACTLY how to fix your work.

If you sign up for this class, a British man will teach you British literature. Let me reiterate - A BRITISH MAN WILL TEACH YOU BRIT LIT. The authenticity of your education will be off the charts. It's a really tough class, but you can hear William Blake read in a English accent by someone who wears "waistcoats", so it's a fair trade.
