Comment:

Science Fiction class was terrible. Frequent misreadings of texts or missing of key themes, then argumentative with students after being called out on factual errors in lectures (i.e. arguing that Earth was destroyed at end of Clarke's 2001). Grading was based not on understanding of material, but agreement with her point of view. Not her subject.

A genius. I had her for Engl 426. She should not teach 220, with cretins who are English majors b/c they lack brains. The idiocy prize goes to that person who said "my HS English teacher could whip her butt," it's like saying your HS physics teacher could have "whipped Einstein's butt" at physics. This teacher is a genius. She really takes the time to help everyone to become a better student of literature. She's also just plain brilliant. She keeps you paying attention and really pushes everyone because she wants the class to learn. She's also a very nice person if you talk to her.

shes an excellent teacher. most people say she's boring mayb bc they dont engage in the specificity of her observations. she is totally connected with the text, and breathes life into it by the way she engages w it. u really learn how to grapple w/ the LIFE of a sentence/work in this class, tho a lot may depend on ur TA.

I can't believe all these ridiculous comments. This was an EXCELLENT class. Perhaps if you want your ideas spoon-fed to you you should take Literature for Dummies. But if you are interested in learning how to truly READ, to comprehend a literary text's meaning this is the course for you. Jehlen is probably the best professor I have ever had.

not sure it's the prof's fault that her class stinks. i think she's be great in a smaller class. my TA was weird & way too critical in his grading strategy. yet another grad student punishing those who come after for all that was done to them. purposely vague quizzes and boring lectures. can easily do outside work in lectures tho!

Complete moron-comes in late, doesn't allow you to use your computer or read, and keeps you late. NERVE. As mentioned before, focuses on one sentence. My high school AP teacher could whip this lady's butt in analysis. Didn't read one book, wrote all my papers 30 minutes before the section meeting started, and still got a B. TA Hyde is dry but kind.

Probably the worst professor I've had so far. The purpose of lecture is to take a "5-minute" quiz (which is suppose to show you've read, yet everyone cheats anyway) and because of mandatory attendance. The papers are the most difficult and pointless pieces I've ever had to write.

Horrible teacher, arrogant and does nothing but confuse the hell out of most people. Does not really care what you have to say, but demands participation to fill up time. Always rambles on and loses train of thought. TA is terrible as well and neither TA nor Jehlen clarify anything. Papers have no point and are ridiculous.

Worst professor I've ever had. Lectures on one day, next day smaller class. My TA pretty much disagreed with Jehlen. Lectures are her focusing on 1 sentence for 1 hr, everyone cheats on the quizes, I didn't read anything (listened to music all the time) and got a B+. A Real waste of time and of a class. If you can, get another prof! She is garbage!

The lectures are pretty much redundant for this class-I only went for the quizzes. She digresses, elaborates on nonsense, and confused me (my TA pointed out that some of her ideas were ill-phrased). Section is the important part of this class; TAs grade your paper, not her. No need to take lecture notes, really. Overall, pretty easy class.
