Dr. Rives is a very good professor, but tough. You need to read the chapters he assigns, as the Carmen quizzes are made from a pre-determined test bank and are not necessarily based off his lectures. However, the exam material is very closely aligned with his lectures. Participation matters and can boost your grade tremendously. Take the class!

Read no further after this: rives/weinstock give a combined exam.Doesnt matter which prof you have. BUY A FINANCIAL CALCULATOR (so, so important) Dont go to class, READ the chapters and do ALL the prac problems in the book. Do ALL review questions they give twice. Follow my framework for an A. If u read this and dont buy a financial calc ur stupid

The class is tough, but you can get through it. My only recommendation is to look out for the final, I thought the class wasn't that bad until I took the final and realized why people all hate on Rives. Go to Weinstock after you take the second exam, to prepare yourself for the final.

Well, I attended both Rives and Weinstock's lectures. Let's me tell u this: the class is hard. So, attend both lectures and pick the right one for you. DOn't do problems from the textbook (just waste of time). Try your best and you'll get what you deserve. Good luck to you.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Talks about random stuff in class that has literally no relevance to the tests, which are your only grades. You better be willing/able to teach yourself how to do problems from the book or you could be in trouble. Take Weinstock if at all possible.

Worthless! After taking this class dreams of majoring in Finance were just that, dreams getting you through the day. Sadly it does not ease getting through the class when Rives shattered it into unrecogizable pieces much like his exam questions.

Strongly discourage anyone from taking this class with him. Tends to mumble and teaches the class as if you are hard-core into finance vs Intro style as it should be. Never posts solutions to explain class work which does not help for exams. Exams themselves are ambigious, complacated, and TRICKY.
