Sometimes it was a little dry, but some interesting family stories. The writing assignments are killer with hundreds of pages of reading. He's smart and makes sure you know that you're not as smart as him (I mean it's true but...) Office hours are most helpful

Tells personal stories for the entirety of his lectures, very boring. Lectures have little to do with writing assignments. No tests, no final. Four 5-page papers due about every 3 weeks, and one big term paper due at end. I was an econ major and thought this would be interesting...couldn't have been more wrong. Take another elective.

Best economics professor I've had at Marquette. If you love the subject, you have to take his class. Very clear expectations. Tests are hard - you have to know your stuff. Papers weren't bad and EC was always offered. An A is an 85 which is very manageable. TL;DR - take Toumanoff. You will learn a lot.

Probably one of the best upper level Econ courses to take.4 essays and a huge term paper, so it's good if you like to write. Make sure your papers are perfect in explanation because he is a tough grader but always helpful. One of the hardest, but best classes at Marquette

Toumanoff is amazing. So much is learned. Make sure to understand everything talked about in class and constantly ask questions, and know how to derive demand like the back of your hand...

Grew up in the USSR... No bathroom breaks in a 75 minute period class or else you get locked out for the rest of the class (Literally will slam the door on you and not let you back in). He is not reasonable. Tough grader, one of the hardest teachers at Marquette. Choose another teacher, he has no humor. Plenty of better teachers to choose.

This class did not have a textbook. The class is composed of 3 papers, 3 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. He weights the grading scale so that an 85 is an A and so on. He is very knowledgeable and very interesting if you are interested in Economics. I HIGHLY suggest Toumanoff if you are an econ major.

You will learn a ton, but its his way or no way. Grades tests and quizzes extremely hard, almost unfair. You can loose many points for putting the wrong word in a 300 word essay. Just do exactly what he asks for. His grading scale seems easy, but he has to do that or everyone will fail.

This class was hard, but it was definitely able to be done if you worked hard. Don't underestimate how long his take home quizzes will be. The Midterm and Final are quite difficult, and require you to know basically everything about a model. He teaches the class very well, and does a great job. I'd recommend this class if you are an econ major.

Tough as hell, Toumanoff is sickly brilliant, but he really really wants you to learn. Key to success in the class is to ask questions all the time, and go in for help. Class load can be tough, don't underestimate the time it takes to work on one of the 4 take home quizes. The midterm and final are also very difficult; know the models.

Class was ridiculously boring, but easy grading scale (85+=A). If you have to suffer through 110, I'd say Toumanoff is the way to go. Workload=2 quizzes, midterm, final, 4 short papers, lots of extra credit on the papers.
