Comment:

When I first started at Shepherd I thought Vila was an amazing professor. However, over the last few semesters he has shown how disorganized and monotonous he really is. His tests are very difficult to the point that A's are not even common. His field trips seem fun at first until everyone decides its a party and gets drunk. I would not recommend.

He is a fantastic person and professor. Very personable and invested in his students. Tests are fairly difficult, don't rely on power points: come to class, you will actually enjoy his lectures.

I've taken almost all of Vila's classes and have learned very little. He's a great person and will help you in any way he can and you can tell he's very knowledgeable but he's extremely disorganized and has a hard time communicating his knowledge to the students. Do his reviews, study for his exams, and attend his labs.

The best teacher at Shepherd in my opinion. I've had him for almost every class he teaches and he absolutely loves and cares about the students who actually pay attention and are willing to study and work. He is a brilliant man and very funny! A PHENOMENAL professor!

He actually cares! His classes are not easy, but he truly wants the students to learn. Even if the subject he is teaching is not your favorite, he will do his best to make it interesting. Take every class he teaches!

Outstanding teacher, one of the few at Shepherd that care about the student actually learning and not just learning how great the teacher thinks they are. Take every class with him you can and ask questions when you need to, he will ALWAYS answer them. Best Professor I ever had.

TAKE EVERY CLASS THIS MAN TEACHES. Dr. Vila is an excellent professor that works with his students and takes the extra time needed to insure that they understand all of the material. He can be funny and is a down to earth kind of guy. His test are very reasonable, but you have to study the notes (powerpoint slides.

I really like the class because I am interested in Ecology, but I don't like the power point power point power point... He goes really fast, and I lose interest because it's too much information. I really like him as a person, and he is extremely passionate about the subject. I just don't like his teaching style! GREAT LAB THOUGH!!!!!! LOTS OF FUN OUTSIDE IN THE STREAMS!!!
