Comment:
Professor Kintzele is extremely knowledgeable, and is very well-respected for it. His class is challenging, but the goal is to prepare students who are taking the CPA Exam. Lecture heavy, and you have to work for your grade - be ready to study. Homework isn't mandatory but he sometimes collects it. Grades are based solely on exams and quizzes.

He needs to retire. Does not teach the material at all, spends all class just writing in chicken scratch and all he is writing is the titles and subtitles of the chapters. Says that many answers in the book are "bad questions" because he doesn't know the answer. Doesnt help you learn so read and teach yourself. Exams are terrible, too much material

Very hard class and requires much studying and work if you want to get a decent grade. Lectures all class and makes it hard to pay attention. If you dont go to class you will miss out on quizzes or homework grades.

Hands down hardest class I have ever taken. Every class you copy the notes from the whiteboard which are not that help full anyway. The lecture notes are essentially an outline of the chapters with hardly any substance. Take this class with a different professor if an option. Do the homework bc he randomly collects it. Do well on the first exam.

If you have the opportunity to take 501 with anyone else, don't miss it. Kintzele's is the hardest class I've taken . He does not give good explanations of the material and the book sucks, so don't think you can fall back on it. Material is hard even if you take good notes. Be prepared because he gives pop quizzes and randomly collects homework.

If you have the option to take this with someone else, please do. Hard concept and his lectures do not help. Very frustrating. He cannot explain things, consistently says wrong things. Goes off on tangents about how simple the math is. Needs to retire. He writes his notes out on the board. Enough said.

Super intelligent professor and I respect him greatly. However he makes a difficult subject more difficult. The three exams in this class were my three hardest ever at CMU. I received around a 55% on all three and I was still better than the class average. A crazy curve at the end of the class saves students. I went from an D- to a C+.

Comment:
Way too much material per exam, especially the final. The project is unclear. He is very old school in his teaching strategy and if you can't keep up with him writing on the board you might be done for in his class

Read the material in the order he says to you otherwise nothing will make sense. Take advantage of his office ours. Exams are in increments of 5 chapters each so its a lot of material. First two exams were fair but the final was just ridiculous. The final is a legit fully comprehensive final. To get a good grade you better be able to recall info.

Dr. Kintzele is an excellent professor. He writes notes on Bb, so you can follow him and won't be lost. He does not smile so much, but he is nice. The way you wants to get an A is trying to be the number 1 in class no matter how many pts you get. take more times to study follow his notes, read book.

This is a pretty tough class but what would expect from a 500 level accounting course. Preparing for class and studying on your own is a must. Class time is not very helpful but Dr. Kintzele is always willing to help students who come to his office hours. Make current with assigned material, it helps on the quizzes

Tough material, but as long as you put in your hours studying & doing homework you'll be fine. He's up front & gives clues on what he's going to test you on. Great Prof! If you have to take ACC 501, take it from him!

Yes, the class is tough. Get over it. Plan on putting in some serious study time. Ask questions, take an interest, and work hard. Kintzele does a fine job teaching if you prepare for each and every class; otherwise, of course you'll be lost.

Doesn't really teach anything, and always says "It's really logical" without telling WHY it's really logical. Starting to wonder if he even knows himself. :-(

Yes - this class is hard. The reason is because he's preparing you for CPA work. There's a reason why it's advanced accounting. He doesn't favor SAS. You NEED to read the chapters and do all of the homework. Know your stuff or you won't do well. There is a big curve, but that's because he treats his class like the CPA exam Take the challenge

Kintzle knows what he's talking about but he doesn't actually teach anything. His methods for instruction are extremely outdated, and the textbook he uses is impossible to read. If you think strictly in terms of numbers and black and white, he's your guy. If you think more conceptually, definitely avoid him. Also, you must know %100 of 301 302.

i agree with the previous entry b/c i heard that he let at least one member of sas get the results of a test before anyone else got them. he also is hard to get a hold of even during office hours but if you are in sas you do not have a problem because he favors you.
