he is a really amazing teacher. But, yes, he can be hard on his students. He asks more out of his students then most anyone, but if you can do well with him, you can do well anywhere. He is a great person to study with.

I studied with Richard Beene for a number of years at the University of Michigan. He is one of the best people I have ever met, and is extremely honest and direct with his students. He will be the first one to tell you what your problems are, but also the first one to help you out with any problems you have. An admirable man.

Mr. Beene is a fantastic teacher; he will get right to the point and tell you what you need to improve on. No one in the world makes better reeds than he does. I found that if I did what Mr. Beene told me to, I was allways surprised by how much better I got at bassoon. He may be a hard teacher, but he genuinely cares about his students.

He didn't show up to 3 of our scheduled meetings without ever giving notice. Can be very intimidating and he almost ruined my enthusiasm for playing the bassoon for a couple of years. Is probably a good teacher for those who live, eat, and breathe music
